i remember getting my sega genesis for christmas in 89…and this gem came packed with it! what a great title to launch a console with…sure, ive played altered beast in the arcades and such ..and i was hooked on it from the start .. it was action packed .. a great side scroller beat em up…i also liked the transformation into creatures aspect (plus that morphing screen was awesome) but most of all its FUN..the genesis version is almost a carbon copy of the arcade classic.. the graphics are crystal clear and they still hold up well today ..for 16 bit, you cant go wrong with this game …after getting the genesis my nes, 7800, and master system collected dust for a long time !even in 2012 ill play alter beast every now and then…and its always a great time..GENESIS DOES ! …what NINTENDON’T .. you cant play this on Nintendo!…. i still remember the commercials..great times. i wish sega would put out another console.it would be something special..
thumbs up
When it comes to the eerie music theme, the dark cut scene’s is what I will always remember. It was dark for VG gaming of the 80’s and that’s what makes it ahead of Its time. I will always enjoy the transformation scenes from a Werewolf to a Bear, e.t.c….This side scrolling arcade style still is a classic for all times.
Fast shipping!! Ordered for a present and it was a great hit!! Thanks!!!
This game is just too much fun. Yes it is true what some reviews say, that the sound and graphics are quite lacking for Genesis / Megadrive standards, however, what most reviews fail to to also note is that, Altered Beast was the FIRST original game that was packaged with every system in the beginning. I say, for it being one of the earliest games, it is done quite well actually.
When Sega came along with their Genesis system, it didn’t reach the attention of the already popular Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Despite its superior graphics capabilities and sound quality, it never touched Nintendo’s sales, at least in the States. Why? Perhaps we’ll never know, because I think the Genesis is one of the best video game systems ever made, right up there with the almighty Super NES… and this game is one of the reasons why.THE GOODI cannot BEGIN to tell you how I love this game. It’s so simple, yet a FUN game. It’s hard, and you’ll just be playing more and more just to beat this game. It has two-player ability which tends to make it easier (subject to your comrade’s abilities, of course.). There’s only four levels, but it’s four levels of sheer oldschool ultimateness. The graphics are ok, if not that great, but hey… we all know gameplay is what makes the game, right? This actually was THE game that hooked me to the Genesis. You’d think that after playing tons of Sonic 2, Aladdin, and X-Men that I would’ve been thoroughly hooked, and while those games are classics, this one particular game somehow snatched me by [my sensitive areas] and told me to buy a Genesis (which I did, with the ever-so-needed Sega CD attachment). Guess I’m just weird.About the game since my review would be pretty short: basic story is that you (with or without your comrade) are raised from the dead by Zeus to go save Athena from an evil sorceror. In each level, you t.
This is supposed to be one of the great classic Genesis games. Personally, it’s kinda lack luster when stacked against games like Killer Instinct, Castlevania Bloodlines, and the Sonic series. The game play is too stiff with the steadily auto-scrolling screen, the avatar is a little too big for the environment and enemies, the Bosses are confusing and unpredictable without life bars, and I don’t actually like how you keep shuffling beast forms between levels. I would have preferred a smaller sprite, I would have preferred Life bars on the bosses, I would have liked to be able to choose which beast to turn into once I collect enough orbs, and I would have appreciated a non auto-scrolling screen. I understand it was one of the first games on the Sega Genesis so the developers didn’t really know what they were doing yet which is why I give ’em credit for making a game that is still at least fairly fun. If It were designed differently though, I would have been more of a fan.
The arcade hit Altered Beast hit the U.S. 1988 and becamethe next game arcade hit, 4 yrs in a row for Sega. For 4 yrsSega dominated the arcades with hits like Space Harrier, ShinobiSuper Hang On, and now Altered Beast. However, the version for the pc is one of the sorriest portsof an arcade game I’ve seen. Everything from the graphicsto the sound, to the control pale in comparison to the arcadehit or even the 16 bit Genesis version. However, this will cover both the Genesis and PC version.Graphics 4:The graphics for the Sega Genesis were pretty cool and greatat the time. The pc version?Uh. Ahh. Eeek. The first problem with the pc version of AlteredBeast, is the fact, that the game only EGA, and VGA color modes. However, the graphics still remain a bit of a pioneer cuzthis was one of the first Arcade games ported for the Genesis.Sound: 3Here lies another fault in the game. There is actually a setup program for the sound, but in all thesetup program was unable to recognize my sound card, andthus the sound of the game was reduced to those fuzzy and outdated internal pc speaker noises as sound.Playing the sound on the Genesis was a mix, the sounds arepretty cool but nothing really cool.Control 3:Like the sound, there is a setup program for the controls. You can choose between playing the game with the keyboardand using a joystick. However, it took both practice and patience to setup the joystick.Overall: 3Although, there were great games made with the limited technology at the time (T.
Altered Beast is a game that early on in the Sega Genesis’ era, came with the system. You are playing as a character ( or characters in 2 player mode) that have been resurrected. You go through the game fighting various enemies, such as zombies,creatures,demons/ghouls,ect…As you play through each level. You encounter herds of oxen. When you see the blue ox, you must hit it to get a “power up”. Your character becomes bigger & more powerful. After several blue ox encounters, you’ll have transformed into a beast with powers! Each level you become a different beast. The 1st level you are the beast on the cover…A ware wolf type dude. Next level you are a dragon, then the 3rd level a bear, ect… It’s a pretty basic and repetitive, yet fun game. When it first came out (on arcade and Sega consoles) it was a great hit! It still holds up pretty good for how old it is. The controls are simple. The music & sound effects are catchy. I’d recommend this game to anyone that enjoys old school classic games,sci-fi games,rpgs,fighter/beat’em up type of games.
My Sega genesis is still my most used system and we have most all of em. This games great.
