XIII was the second FF game I’ve ever played. Before it, I played FF X, and I see a lot of similarities between the two. The difference is that XIII gets a lot of grief because of the linear story, whereas X gets a slide for whatever reason (coughbecauseitwasreleasedontheplaystation2andeverybodylovesthatconsolecough). Anyway, XIII was incredibly beautiful, and I purchased XIII-2 immediately after. Both of these games for under $20 is a steal.
The game is pretty leniar like all the previous reviewers stated, but I find it fun as a casual RPG gamer. I’ve never seen the PS# version, but it looks fantastic on Xbox. Considering I think FFX is the best game the series, I am not surprised that I like it (FFX is still the best though). I miss exploring towns and the whole game feels like a long dungeon when you are getting used to the whole new way of battling enimies. Once you get used to it though, you’ll find it fun if you are a casual RPG gamer like me. The game opens up exploring the terrain pretty late in the game, but I still haven’t come across any towns per se to hang out.
Daughter says that it was actually really really good. She really enjoyed it.Highlights: Great graphics, design, character introduction, fightingDownfalls: it does get challenging, definitely not for the beginner
A solid and truly underrated Final Fantasy experience. Yes it is a bit linear. But the combat is the best to date in my opinion. The characters were fantastic. And the plot was just as good if not better than Final Fantasy’s of past. The best since X in my opinion.
This is a great series with another great addition to be added. This one definitely keeps you playing for endless hours if you decided to do all the side quests or try to obtain all the items. I’m not a person to do something like that – I personally like to play for the story and nothing more. The story by itself is intriguing enough to keep me interested. At first the game moves slow only because there is a lot of character building and a lot of cut scenes to keep you interested. After getting past all of that and really into the game, you’ll find that the game has a lot to offer. There is the typical leveling up that you need to do especially near the end, and of course a lot of running around. One of the features I really liked was that the enemies don’t just pop up out of no where. You have the ability to avoid them most of the time. I find it very useful when you get tired of always running into them and just wanting to progress the story.I think leveling up could have been a little less confusing as you find so many weapons to level up that its hard to figure out what is the best weapon for you to use until it is too late. I recommend studying ahead of time on which weapons you want to aim for for leveling up so you don’t waste precious time and elements.
I’m a veteran from FF7, FF8, FF9, and FF10. After years of taking a break this brought back the feeling I felt for playing this game and love the paradigm system and how it makes the battle sequences more realistic and tactful. The main boss music created more urgency when facing the opponent. The story had a lot of different characters and personalities and gave the impression of what it means to survive and succeed.
I’ve found something to love about every Final Fantasy game I’ve played thus far, and FF13 is no different. I really appreciate Square Enix’s latest trend of shaking up the gameplay with each new release while still hammering out some of the best looking RPG visuals for that particular generation. For example I was head-over-heels for the graphics in FF12 and absolutely loved the real-time battle system because of how unique and refreshing it was.FF13 continues that trend in a most excellent manner. The new paradigm system has AI controlling and choosing character attacks for the most part, thus “dumbing down” the gameplay in a certain sense. However, the upshot is that the action is engaging and frenetic with the AI constantly performing some of the coolest looking attacks I’ve seen to date.Because of the game’s extensive attention to visual detail and motion, the combat is fast-flowing and awesome to behold. Since I personally play RPGs precisely because I usually consider them to be mindless forays where I get to sit back and appreciate all the gorgeous artwork, the “dumbing down” aspect and the increased action that results are both welcome in my book.FF13’s story is also actually quite good. It was surprising to find myself swept away by the story and the characters, eager to find out what happens next. That hasn’t happened to me since Final Fantasy 8… (I unfortunately did not play 9) so it’s been quite a few years.All-in-all, a most excellent purchase for anyone who d.
Was a gift, I’m guessing he liked it, because I didn’t hear any complaining.
I was a bit skeptical at first, I had heard that this game wasn’t very good and that it was very linear. Despite it being linear the game is really good in my opinion, as well as very challenging, I have put in more than 100 hours into the game and still loving it. This was my first ever Final Fantasy game completed, and it is my favorite. The only draw back would be how difficult the game can get, sometimes it’s more than just challenging. I do recommend it to people who want try out a new final fantasy, that redefines turn based strategy gaming.
