Read the reviews for other PSX tactics games. Heck, read the reviews for brand new tactics/strategy RPGs coming out. What does everyone compare tactics games to?FFT.Final Fantasy Tactics is the standard. Good games came before it, good games have come since it, but FFT is the absolute pinnacle of tactical roleplaying. To express this, I am going to focus only on ONE aspect of FFT (because describing all the excelling aspects of this game would take a very long time)Innovative class system – there are multiple job classes, and any of the characters in your party can be any of the job classes available in the game. Each of these job classes has active skills and inactive skills, and a character can equip another job class’s active skills as a secondary job class. In other words, any of your characters can specialize in a job, and still have active proficiency in another job.squire, chemist, knight, thief, archer, geomancer, lancer, samurai, ninja, white mage, black mage, time mage, summoner… those are some that come to mind. But there are more possibilities. As you battle you accrue both experience points which go towards the level of your character (raising your base stats) and job points (JP) which allow you to purchase new abilities within your character class. In other words, you learn abilities how you want to, along a self-designed learning tree. The amount that you can customize is staggering. How about a comparisonThe average RPG – ah, I leveled up my mage! He.
This is quite possibly the best video game ever conceived. You have to keep an open mind of course in terms of the graphics, but that shouldn’t matter if you really like a good video game with a great story line and excellent fighting/fun. If you have a Playstation 1 or 2 I suggest you buy this game immediately, you would be surprised at how much fun it is.
I haven’t finished this game yet, but I love it anyway. If you like other Final Fantasy games beware that this game is very different. It’s a whole new battle system that involves a lot of moving around and a lot of outside levelling up. This game is very hard, but the story and the characters are great and it’s worth all the extra time you spend replaying battles when you lose. Strategy is very important. If you like a challenge, you’ll love FFT.
When I first got Final Fantasy Tactics, I got it along with Final Fantasy VII. I played VII, more than Tactics. But I got tired of VII and went to Tactics. I got completely hooked on it, the story and graphics were amazing. Given the fact that PS2 was of no knowledge, you’d flip out over games that have sort of CG graphics when you attack or cast spells or even heal.FFT is a VERY good game to get hooked on. Cause even after you beat the game, you can do so much more, you can build your characters up. You can do quests, find ‘easter eggs’ from other FF game when you go treasure hunting. For FFT Advanced, that’s a good game, but it’s not the best, sure it’s good for Gameboy, but it doesn’t compare to it’s predocessor, I mean, it’s a great game on the road, that’s if you don’t have a PS1 with a mini TV and stuff. I beat FFTA WAY too fast haha. All in all, if your a super hardcore gamer who will want to go back in time and play old school games, GO FOR IT! A DEFINATE MUST! I hope this helps you decide as of the other posts about this game, quite frankly, I’m still playing the game when I get really bored haha :)
…This game is fantastic. The story blends perfectly with the battles, and many times takes place in battles. I most of all really like the level-up system, it’s very complex and uses the Job System. This is no doubt a very intellectual game. The job system allows for hours and hours of battling and leveling up until you reach your max statistics, and even then there is still work allowed to be done. The storyline is very, very deep. Another aspect is the Music, which is amazing! it adds to the atmosphericness of the game, and is very well written. I recommend this to anyone with a whole lot of patience…and a brain. If you are restless…this isn’t for you. This game would probably appeal to the more mature croud of gamers…hence the long battles and complex/intertwining storyline.
When I first got this game, I thought it was just a Final Fantasy game where you can just have custom characters. I was wrong. This game is much more. I’ve played several other Final Fantasy games and this is better than those I’ve played.First off, the storyline is amazing. The main character is a young man named Ramza (you can change his name) who wants to follow his father’s path and become a knight of great respect. However, he goes through a time of deceit, treachery, murder, and turmoil. Everything is just plain wrong in his eyes and in the end, he has no idea on which side to take up, so he fights on his own side, which in your eyes might be the good side (it was in mine). There are so many twists to this game you’ll keep coming back for more. The graphics in this game is amazing. The look of all the different attacks are amazing, especially the magical and special character skills. The characters are, as some may put it, Super-Deformed (SD), but they look amazing. The levels are in 3D and look really nice. And each weapon has a unique look, which is pretty sweet. The gameplay is just plain amazing. It’s a simple way of playing: move, perform an action, and choose the direction you face. It’s also complex enough to require a well thought strategy, thus where the word “Tactics” comes into play. Random battles are actually random; they don’t have a specific pattern, compared to other Final Fantasy games. Also, there’s a deep class system called the “Job Syst.
FFT is a masterpiece. There is hardly any word I can find to describe it. There is no game quite like it. The game play is very additive and the cool job classes made it even more attactive. The job classes and job abilities made the game more interesting by giving players the power to set their characters’ abilities and stats, either a sword-wielding mage or a gun-holding swordman, it’s totally up to the player. The battle system is awesome and it brings more depth to the game. Furthermore, the game have a very high replay value and I had replayed it for 20 times. I’m praying for a remake of this great game or a new one on PS2 or PS3 that have the same battle system and more job class. Personally this game is one of my all time favouites… What made it even more cool was the ability to get and use Cloud from FF7 in the later part of the game. To me this is one of the greatest game squaresoft ever made, second only to FF7….
This was purchased as a present for a friend of mine.I’m a fan of the Final Fantasy series in general. I think I’ve made my friend a fan as well – he’s played about 120hrs and thoroughly enjoyed it.For those unfamiliar with this installment, it focuses on a very detailed and well constructed job class system and a tile based movement/attack battle engine. The story line is more of an ensemble cast with multiple interests at odds – much like the story line used in the more recent FF12 set in the same world. This game is very similar in style the Tactics Ogre and was the origin of the setting for the FF12 games and FFTA series. Many of the jobs and their respective roles were carried over into the class design for the MMORPG FFXI as well.
this was one of my all time favorite games as a kid, so I thought I would buy it again. it didn’t let me down I love this game with all my heart. there are so many twist and turns that make it the best turn based rpg game ever.
Like nearly every game in the Final Fantasy Series, this is one heck of a game. The graphics are quite good, and done in an anime-style format. I think the other reviewer’s hangups came from peoples misunderstanding of anime graphics. There should be no complaints about the interface, as it’s more intuitive than most Strategy/RPG games I’ve ever played. The job system allows such varied gameplay that each new game will never be the same. This adds a depth to the gameplay, and quite a bit of excitement as each new ability is added. The Lancer’s no height ability is awesome, as this character can now jump to the top of high buildings! There are only a few hangups. The first is that the characters in the battlescreens walk in place. What the heck is that?! Each character class should have their own unique stance, plus, we should see their weapons/shields at all times. We see them appear when they block or attack, so it shouldn’t have been all that difficult to do this. Also, the translation is horrible- a third grader could have written it better. This unfortunately obscures (and confuses many) from a well-done plot of political intrigue and warring kingdoms. A little work here would have made the game flawless. All in all, this is a 4.5 star game- not much needs improving.
