One of the best in the series and of all rps around i hope final fantsy will be around for a long tie
Honestly, I don’t remember ordering this, but it was on my list of older items to review…must’ve ordered it a LONG time ago, as in 10+ years ago, maybe even 15! But it EASILY is one of my favorite 8-bit Nintendo games, and EASILY scores a 5-star…if you’ve never played it, you don’t know what you’re missing! One of the original RPG’s that started it all! (See also Phantasy Star for Sega and Dragon Warrior also for NES).PS – I’ve beat it with like six different parties…by far the best party is a Fighter, two Black Belts, and a White Mage (equip him with the Masmune)…thieves and black mages I found unnecessary…also, an all mage party is fun, too, tho VERY hard: Red Mage, White Mage, and two Black Mages…for experienced gamers only.PPS – remember buying 99 healing potions time after time? xP
What gamer worth their salt out there isn’t at least remotely aware of Final Fantasy? The long-running series of RPGs has become a gaming institution that has left scars of nostalgia on just about everyone whose held a controller at one point or another. What you’re looking at, this little gray brick, is the jumping point; a title made by a financially destitute game company giving it one last shot before closing their doors for good.Anyway, I’ve rambled enough. Let’s talk about the game!Final Fantasy is a game that shows it’s age, but not ungracefully. The characters and monsters depicted are nothing special technically, animations are nearly nonexistent and palette swapping is an ever-present beast. The real stand out quality in the art is that the enemies are large and well detailed. Unlike similar games like Dragon Warrior or the NES Ultimas the enemy sprites take up half the screen, some bigger than others and some even bigger than those. The characters themselves are rather small in comparison, so a sense of fighting an enemy larger and stronger than you is present every time you wander into a new cave or forest. The gameplay itself hasn’t held up as well as many of the other RPGs of the era, unfortunately. You are tasked with forming a team of four warriors of various classes and strengths. If in the long run you find that a character just doesn’t work the way you’d like them to you’re pretty much stuck with restarting. A lot of the combat mechanics, especially magic, a.
Whether you’ve never played an 8 bit game before or you consider yourself an expert on the subject, it’s very easy to underestimate the original Final Fantasy. Sure, the music, graphics, game design and battle interface were all cutting edge at the time, but the first thirty minutes of this game may not win you over right away.I clearly recall beginning the game and finding it amusing, but somewhat dated and unimpressive. I started out on my mission, fighting enemies, building experience, purchasing better weapons, magic, and equipment, following suggestions from local villagers and, eventually, I got to Garland: the first big boss. After an impressive battle, he was defeated, and I smiled smugly, satisfied that I had overcome a major obstacle and gotten pretty far into this primitive adventure so quickly. Then I crossed the bridge, and the opening credits rolled. That experience defined FF1 for me. Every time you think you understand the structure, parameters, and limits of the game, from modes of travel to impassable land masses and dead end oceans, the rules change in the most fun ways possible. Canoes, ships, airships, undersea and above land levels, an ever expanding world map, robots and future technology (from the past), a gypsy market in the desert, a waterfall guarding a hidden entrance, a circle of wise men in a hidden clearing, and additional problems and challenges that pop up after you think you’ve done EVERYTHING you were supposed to do keep the game fresh an.
One of the finest games ever made! I got this for my birthday the year it came out. Actually, my mother took me shopping and i was able to choose 2 games. I choose Legend of Zelda and, although i hadn’t really heard of it before but i liked the box art,Final Fantasy. I ended up never playing all the way through Legend of Zelda but i have beat this game countless times over the years. The story is simple yet keeps you involved and the game play and ability to upgrade your characters is superb. It was also a very long game when it first came out compared to most. Endless party combinations and strategies make this one you will play over and over again and i usually do beat the game again ever several years or so even now. I highly recommend it!
When I first played Final Fantasy for the NES, I had been playing video games for a couple of years. I’m not sure I had yet played Dragon Warrior, but I know that I had never heard of an RPG. I received this game for Christmas one year and just started playing. Even though the gameplay was so different and I only got to tell the characters what to do instead of controlling them, I was absolutely engrossed in the game. I couldn’t put it down. I spent time fighting Imps, beating the Pirates in Pravoka, and venturing into the Marsh Cave (but not before level 9). I loved this new game.Compared to RPGs today, Final Fantasy had an incredibly simple story. The world is in trouble (naturally). Four Fiends of Fire, Earth, Air, and Water have ruined the land. A prophecy states that four warriors of Light would come to save the world. You control these Light Warriors and get to pick the character classes of your party (Fighter, Thief, Black Belt, Red/White/Black Mage). It is your quest to destroy this evil plaguing the land and restore the Crystals which give the land its strength. You fight and level up your characters so that they will be stronger and are able to destroy the more difficult enemies. You buy items to keep your characters strong. You buy weapons and armor so that you characters will be able to fight more effectively and live longer.I only had two problems with this game when I was first playing it for the NES. One: if one of your characters kills an enemy.
