A brilliant season that took on huge historical, philosophical issues with taste and sensitivity. As in previous seasons, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe continue to deliver performances of the highest caliber. That kind of consistency of excellence, in such a long running project , is truly a marvel. They are the ballast that keeps this mighty enterprise afloat.
I did not want to have to purchase Starz and wait to see Outlander so I ordered the DVD. I had not problems with any of the disks. They all played perfectly. So glad I purchased them. Great deal! I can keep them or sell them. Either way I’m happy I bought them.
I am an obsessed Outlander fan. I’ve always purchased the Blu-Ray for the bonus content after watching the season. I sincerely hope there will be a non-“collectors” option available (that includes all the deleted scenes) at a more reasonable price, since I don’t have the budget for 4 months of Starz as well as nearly $70 for the Blu-Ray. I really can’t justify the expense. I may have to chose just one or the other next year.
I have read the Outlander series (all of it, not just the 8 “big books”) a couple times, and i have enjoyed the show. As always, it must have been difficult to condense these huge books with many, many characters and side stories into just a few episodes each year. I always find that I enjoy each episode more watching them again after watching the entire season. By then the changes from the books has sunk in, and I can enjoy the way the show was done more.My biggest disappointment content-wise is that when something is left out, it often seems to be the humourous parts of the books. There was plenty of stuff that was funny in this book (Willie and Ian in the latrine with the snake and Claire beating the bear over the head with a fish while Jamie is fighting for his life come to mind quickly). But the writers usually give a nod to those occurences somewhere even if it is just a quick clip at the beginning of the episode. (Yes, we all saw the snake slithering away at the beginning of what would have been the latrine episode). However, thank you Starz for offering these shows as a downloadable version onto my Kindle! We travel a lot to places where there is no internet, and it is great being able to download a show and take it with us for rainy days when we are sick of reading a book.My one disappointment is that we cannot load the episodes onto a computer and Kindles no longer have an HDMI interface, so we have no way to watch the downloaded shows on the larger screen of our tra.
I love the series the Outlander but since I don’t have Starz , I brought season 4 and enjoyed watching all week.If you like history, you will like this series about a woman that is transported back to seventeenth century in Scotland and how she put her medical knowledge to good use in that time!
Why, in God’s name, didn’t I invest in that eye-wash concession catering to reviewers, when I had the chance?’Historical’ inaccuracy in pig-feeding depictions; the improbability of a young 18th Century man knowing better how to handle an 18th Century problem than would a 20th Century ‘history professor’; a director’s choice to inject some actual music of the time represented, rather than sticking with 100% original sounds as one would have it done – These are the complaints some of you people want to register?! Oh, & please don’t forget that exorbitant opening price ( …the nerve!!!!! ). Has anyone ever seen the opening price on anything from retrolio stand up clear to release day? Hold your water until Black Friday, if you can; it’ll go for a whole 10 bucks, if every season to date gives any indication. I waste precious time once again to point out that a ‘PRODUCT REVIEW’ is supposed to address the qualities, good & bad, of the thing itself; it’s not just a whining board to air your disfavor over choices made by writers, directors, show runners, etc. who have failed to show a proper deference to YOUR personal vision of what THEIR show really ought to be.
Outstanding performances by the whole Outlander cast – especially Sam Heughan, Catriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, David Berry, John Bell and Duncan Lacroix kept me riveted throughout. Production values extremely high.Bear McCreary’s musical score, by turns tender or haunting, adds so much to the series. Brilliant costuming and photography of backcountry Scotland subbing for 1770s North Carolina is just awesome eye candy.I loved the added Bllue Ray special features of “Outlander Untold”, though some of the other writer and producer commentaries were tricky to locate and deserve their own DVD.Highly recommend it for historical adventure buffs!
This season has been amazing! I don’t read the books (and won’t) so any deviations from them on the show are lost on me. However, I’ve been able to have questions answered by Googling the books and reading character bios, so while I may have missed things from the books, I’m satisfied – extremely satisfied – with the series. My only disappointment has been that I’ve never seen the Collector’s Edition in DVD format, only Blu-ray, so now I’m in the market for a Blu-ray player because the series is definitely worth going the extra mile to watch the material that is unavailable on the DVDs.Back to the season: there will always be parts that I don’t like, but the acting this season has been phenomenal! As always, Sam Heughan (who deserves an award for his work on the season finale) and Caitriona Balfe were great, but Richard Rankin, Sophie Skelton, David Berry, and John Bell (to name a few) were absolutely incredible! I’ve watched the entire series several times, but Season 4 was some of the most believable acting I’ve ever seen! When the actors can make you feel every bit of what they’re portraying, to me, it doesn’t get any better than that. I can’t wait to watch this season and bonus material on Blu-ray!
Good product quality. Happy with all the “extras/bonus” features as well as the music CD.The code for digital version works at Sony Movies and also at Vudu.Excerpt from “Go tell the bees that I am gone” is included (chapter named “Hunting” -9 pages, big print, so probably about 2 pages from the actual book-). There’s also a discount coupon from the official Outlander store. The packaging of this collector’s edition is smaller than the one for season 1, but it “seems” bigger than the one I got from season 3 (just because it includes the music CD, but they are the same size and design). It has definitely fulfilled my expectations.P.S.: for those saying “awful season, not worth buying, etc., etc.”, please learn the difference between an “opinion” vs a “product review”. Your personal opinions about a product that you haven’t bought aren’t helpful for people with actual buying intentions.
Great book series and a wonderful TV series. It doesn’t fall short of expectations established in the first three seasons. Many scenes of America were shot in Scotland and they were amazing, as Scotland is a beautiful rugged country still unspoiled by too much tourism. Costumes and sets were gorgeous, as always.
