im a DW fanboy since DW2 and i have played most DW games, Orochi, SW and a few of the empire versions (my favorite kind)So from all the other reviews you know whats up but what i disliked is since all weapons can be used by practically everyone there is a lack of uniqueness. Sure some characters have EX attacks for certain weapons but what if you dont like their ex attack/musou and seems useless [f.e any EX atk giving u atk,def or speed buff]. I much prefered other versions where characters had unique movesets and weapons. My suggestion would be have their unique movesets and static weapon and a free slot for a free weapon (with some having EX attacks)They added alternative musous (and you can no longer hold down the musou button till it drains) a few musous heal and is somewhat lackluster because at the end you just get combo’d again! but aerial musou is a nice touch so you can always save yourself from a nasty combo and stop being juggled. They also added animal companions instead of choosing a horse (u still get a horse but its the slowest one) and a wolf, tiger, falcon or panda will follow you but for the most part they are either too slow, do virtually nothing or mess with your combo.Anyway my biggest gripe is there isn’t any real reward for trying out chaos/hard mode, sure you might get better stat drops but thats all i figure. Usually i play normal till I buff someone i like and try chaos for their 10th weapon or better items or something but in this game there isn’t any.
I will try to be objective since I am kind of fan for DW series. This is just a quick review after I played “Shu” in story mode for about 3 hours.0.I put it in ‘0’ place because I think it is very important. For casual gamers, this game could be fun, simple and maybe boring in “Normal” difficulty. But please do not underestimate the action element of the game. only when you have played “Chaos” difficulty, you can feel that the action is somehow technical. From my experience in almost all DWs,Samurai Warrior 1&2, Musou Oruchi, you have to play the hardest difficulty to really get the essence of the game and the action. Now others comments:1.Story mode is different from previous versions. You have to play different characters in different stages.2.Story telling is definitely MUCH MUCH BETTER, actually pretty much consistent with the novel “Romance of the three kingdom”(at least in the first 3 hours of “Shu” story), but of course not real history…3.Combo system goes back to DW5 and before(also similar to Samurai Warrior 1&2), feels like the combo I had been doing in the PS2 ages…not sure why Koei did that. Totally different from DW6 indeed.4.The graphic does NOT look dramatically better, only get slightly improved in my opinion. The characters looks too beautiful…some female characters wear too little (considering this is in ancient China…this is impossible)5….Well, personally I like the game. For DW fan, I think this game will probably be the best of the whole series.For.
Great game!
Enjoy these games, even though its the same thing all the time, its very addicting.
I’m dynasty warriors hardcore fan with playstation series. I love Chinese three kingdom dynasty history in 180 to 270 year. Hope it will develop new feature in the future.
Thanks!
OK not really, but I could see myself doing it. I was a little worried when I heard the Tecmo had bought Koei, was worried that Tecmo would change everything. Luckily, they improved things. I have been a fan of Koei since Romance of the Three Kingdoms on Super NES, and a Dynasty Warriors fan since the second one on ps1, and this is one of the best titles in the series.I still believe DW6 Empires is the title to beat though.Let’s start with the bad, cause this will be quick:1. There are still some camera troubles, they aren’t too horrible, but noticable2.Lack of Morale Bar. I totally depend on this in all the other DW games. This bar lets me know if the other generals can handle thier battle or if they need help.3. Switch attack- cool concept on paper, but not really practical. Now the good:1.The graphics are awesome. I really like the way the cutscenes are the same as the gameplay, really, great job.2.Story Mode- Many people have complained about the story mode and not being able to play different characters, while I can understand the point of view, seeing the whole series come to life is awesome.3.Conquest Mode- Love the village, makes it feel more like an RPG.Basically, this game is the best core title so far and I can’t wait to play Xtreme Legends.
Love it!
Definitely will recommend this game to anyone who enjoys history and easy to learn battling! I like the graphics, the design of costumes(look at Zhu Rong) and the English voiceover for characters in movies/events.
This series is a classic for me so buying the newest version of it was a no brainer. Somethings were better about the game, such as the new characters/kingdom, the town like levels that allow you to wander from shop to shop, as well as setting the difficulty from level to level instead of one general setting. One of the major downsides for me included the fact that stories weren’t focused on one single character, but kingdoms. You weren’t able to be one character throughout the story line.Over all it’s a great game. Not the best Dynasty Warriors, but certainly on the upper end of the list!
