Divine Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga is an RPG made by the indie developer Larian Studios.I waited on writing this review until I completed the game. The story:You are about to become a dragon slayer when your initiation ceremony gets postponed due to the call of the hunt… In a twist of fate you (no spoiler here) become the last Dragon Knight- a warrior who can transform into a dragon, and on a mission to save the world from Damian “The Damned One” (a reference to ‘the Omen’?). When the first chapter ends (Ego Draconis) I was rather enraged, and glad there was a part two (then I discovered the ending of part one was comically foreshadowed). The second chapter (Flames of Vengeance) continues where the last chapter left off and ends in a way that made me yell “YES! Now that’s a proper ending.”Content:This is a content rich RPG. Lots of people to meet and places to see. You feel like you’ve stepped into an actual world. It’s hard to describe how intricate and well thought out the writer were. The dialogue is witty, some books you find will make you laugh. Make no mistake, this game will keep you entertained! The number of quests as well as their variety is great. Another thing that got me excited to play was the humor! The antics of a character named Bellegar alone is worth seeing. Each time I popped the disc in I wondered what new funny or Easter egg I would see (this game is packed to the gills with references to various books, movies, internet memes and other video-game.
Imagine if World of Warcraft, Fable, and Skyrim had a love child. This game would likely be the progeny. To me, this game is extremely underrated. It makes me sick when I buy a game for $60, and it’s either just alright or it plain sucks. For the money, this is the best around, maybe even better than a typical $60 game. I actually enjoyed it more than Skyrim (awaiting flame war.) The combat is full real time action, eg. the game does not pause when you enter battle, there seems to be an aggro range. The leveling up, and the way quests are displayed looks strikingly similar to WoW. You can also choose to be either a mage, warrior or archer, but only one at a time. I chose warrior, but it’s nice to have the option. I’m somewhat of an old-school RPG fan, to me the combat has to be either full turn based or full action. I hate the new “enhanced battle systems” the companies churn out these days which are too complex. I really don’t get the whole “OMGZorZ, the graphics SUX, 1 star!” To me, the gamneplay and the story are the most important, I really don’t care if a game doesn’t have the best graphics. The graphics are like a crutch these days; an excuse for a company to put out a subpar game that looks amazing, but plays like garbage. Divinity II:TKS plays great, and it doesn’t look bad while doing it. I’d highly recommend this game to any gamer on a budget who wants to experience a great RPG.
This is a great, supremely addictive game. It has a unique artistic and narrative style, with a lot of unique gameplay elements. You can fight as a man (warrior, ranger, mage, priest, or any combination you fancy), fly as a dragon, destroy enemy’s fortresses, solve puzzles, uncover a multitude of secrets, and so on. I can’t imagine why this game is not very popular. It totally beats any Fable game, and yes, even DA2 (which was not too hard to beat). It shares the same place as DAO on my list, but by different reasons. Also: for under 40 buck you get about 100 hours total (including add-on). This beats any game on the market.People, what are you waiting for? To be a dragon for less then $40 – it’s like a dream come true. ;)
I had low expectations for the game, but was greatly suprised by the game. I am 20+ hours into it and I enjoy it a lot. I enjoyed the and finished the first Dragon Age but I find myself liking Divinity 2 more.Pro’sGood Story – would benefit a little to highlight a quest and map the next step, but I am never confused about what things to do next.Graphics are B/B+Simplicity – matter of preference but I like controlling only one character and not having a party following around and having to be issuing commands, etcGood voice actingWeapons and Armour have unique style and you character looks different with cool armor, weapons etc.Character have acces to all skills want to be part melee and part wizard you can be good at both or want some necromancer thrown in, go for it. You are not bound to a specific skill tree.ConsGraphic glitches, I guess it’s camera, but you lose view of you character. It’s does not affect my experience but its just not fluid movement at all times. In general the graphics are good but you come across random glitches.Music, sound…… The ambient sound and music are average. The “danger” music still plays even though you killed the goblin camp etc. things like that.Loading Times – my biggest complaint even installed in the hard drive it takes more time than I would like.Highlighting items …… It’s pickyTo summarize its a tried and true formula for RPG and they implement it well.
This game is all about content. You collect different armors, enchantments for equipment, gems to charm that same equipment, and so much more. You travel by turning into a dragon and partaking in a fly dragon versus enemy fortress mini game. This game is awesome. Anyone who likes WESTERN rpg formula should go buy this. It’s like playing though dragon age 1 with less limitations on the world map. I can not recommend this game more. GO BUY IT!!!
GREAT fun. If you like Skyrim and such and are looking for a game that is cheap to get, this would be a good recommendation. The graphics actually do not suck. The controls however do suck sometimes. This means the buttons you might expect to be hitting are totally not the ones you have to hit!
A fun game, and completes the story, compared to just getting "Ego Draconis".
In an era where big dawg developer companies give us shorter games, limited offer dlc, and 2 page black and white instruction manuals Divinity 2 DKS comes along on a silver chariot pulled by the two mighty steeds Larian and Atlus to prove “chivalry” is not dead in the industry. Even before you get into the game itself you’re treated to a soundtrack cd and a fully colored bi-lingual instruction manual. Indeed after head honcho Swen Vincke sincerely thanks you for your purchase and showers praise upon his team in a heart felt introduction letter you may feel as if you are having a delirious hallucination. Then when you are promised 100 hours of rpg goodness for 39.99 your head will reel with the possibility that you have fallen into an alternate dimension through a worm hole. Well, rest assured Divinity 2 Dragon Knight Saga is as “real” as it gets!I’ve heard some gamers describe this as being “good filler” to occupy time until Skyrim releases but to me that seems to discredit just how worthy Divinity 2 DKS truly is. While it is true some things in DKS remind me of Oblivion, Fable, and Dragon age it’s chalked full of many nuances that make it completely unique as well. Sure, you can kick chickens, learn to mix herbs, roam around in an open world, and enchant your gear with special charms but these familiar things are a very miniscule portion of the greater experience. The first aspect that surprised me in a positive way was how streamline the controls were. Spells, items, and a.
For a fantasy RPG, this is the best thing on the 360 right now. I found the level progession to be well tied into the story and available map areas. There are an impressive variety of skill sets / progression choices. Moreover, a vast array of armor and weapons combined with unique charm and enchant options make your character a one of a kind effort. Once you secure the Battle Tower, the story and action really get kicked up to the next level! In a 100+ hour adventure, a typical 5 minutes would include morphing to and from dragon form, summoning necro creatures, casting spells, using abilities, drinking potions, knocking heads in melee combat, looting bodies/chests, finding a new area, destroying fortifications, chatting it up with NPC while mindreading their intermost thoughts… all in five minutes. Seriously, this is a great effort.
Thought it was boring to the point that I stopped playing after about 2 hours and didn’t pick it up again for 5 or so months. Started playing again and once I got out of the valley it really took off in a good way. For a price and gameplay style I would suggest you only buy Divinity 2 if you’re really into old(er) school style western rpg’s, otherwise stick with the more quickly gratifying Dragon Age or Fable games. Side note, the soundtrack it came with was pretty killer.
