Got this for the hubby who likes a challenge. Lots of action and gore lol, can’t wait till it’s my turn to play!
This is a great game with fun combat, a creepy atmosphere, and a decent story in which the secondary plots (developed further in Dead Space 2) seem more compelling than the primary focus. There are a few bits that don’t quite add up (especially towards the end) that many other reviews have touched on. Also, the controls can be a little frustrating at times (the developer later described wanting a sense of horror to come from the game itself and "not from the horror that something is moving slowly towards you and you canĆ¢ā¬ā¢t shoot it because the game controls like a piece of crap"All that said, this is a very solid first entry in the Dead Space trilogy.
There’s not much to be said about this game that hasn’t already been said by the masses on retrolio. I just wanted to follow up and add my two credits for people who were on the fence about getting this game.I love survival horror games. I am a long time fan of everything in the Resident Evil series except for 5… 5 wasn’t really survival horror… it was like a co-op shoot em’ up /sighAnyway, if you like the genre, I believe you will like this game. It plays a little like Gears of War in terms of the over the shoulder shooter, but feels more like RE 4 in regard to the shops, upgrades and item collection.A few things I was worried about when reading the negative reviews were cleared up after playing the game. One thing I read about was that the story doesn’t make sense or its ‘weak’: The story makes perfect sense to me. I followed it from the get go. There are moments where it lacks, sure, but in terms of it being clear, I never felt like I didn’t know what was going on. You may think its not original or groundbreaking material… and you’re probably right. In regard to the story making sense though, it was easy enough to grasp.Second, some people complained about the lack of a HUD… You won’t miss it, trust me. Unless you’re looking for a first person shooter. In that case, you should look for another game =)This game has great action, the controls offer enough of a challenge to where you need to acclimate yourself to them, but it’s rewarding to master. The upgrade system is.
Dead space delivers with it’s fun shooting mechanics, but utterly lacks all of the scares I was expecting. The inventive weaponry definitely makes this more interesting than a lot of other shooters. It’s worth playing and it’s fun, but it’s just not scary.
Horror game. Not best choice for kids. Great game.
This game does a great job of blending modern horror’s gore and jump scares with classic horror’s atmosphere to give you a truly terrifying experience. EA Redwood Shores (now Visceral) succeeded in creating an interesting portrayal of the 26th century, and the mythos of the Necromorphs is quite creative, almost seeming like a fusion of the xenomorph from the movie Alien, a typical zombie apocalypse and a biological version of the Borg from Star Trek.As far as gameplay goes, I did find this game a bit frustrating. Controls are good and I adapted to them quickly, but safe havens from attack are very few and far in between, so you should save frequently. Also, if (like me) you’re a terrible shot, you’ll want to carry around plenty of Stasis packs, which makes managing you inventory space as frustrating as necromorph disposal. However, these are very minor personal issues, and by the end of this game I had thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience.
Great game! Unmistakably the best modern sci-fi horror game you can find. The atmosphere is terrifying, the gameplay is masterful, the length is superb (you get a lot of gameplay for your money). The Unitology storyline is a little corny and cliche, but this is a terrific game if you enjoy being on the edge of your seat.
This game really was an instant classic when it came out and it’s still a terrific single-player experience today. I didn’t like the demo when I played it, but I took a chance and bought this a while later anyway and I’m very glad I did. I’ve almost beaten the game completely, but it’s a game I could see coming back to down the road. Can’t wait to get Dead Space 2.I read one reviewer on retrolio who said he hated a part of the game where you have to destroy some asteroids. Don’t listen to them. This is one of a couple parts of the game that take you away from the normal flow of the game briefly, and they’re very entertaining challenges. That guy must have been terrible at it.
Gift for Christmas for hubby, works great !
