Well written and imformative
This is a very good book on the subject especially for 48 pages. It covers various classes of Soviet cruise missile submarines from the 1950s through the early 2000s: NATO designations Whiskey Twin Cylinder, Whiskey Long Bin, Echo I and II, Juliett, Papa, Charlie I and II, Oscar I and II, Yankee class conversions, and finally Project 885 Yasen. There are numerous photos and color renderings along with tabulations of dimensions and performance characteristics. The text uses both the NATO and the Soviet project number designations. The book “Cold War Submarines: The Design and Construction of U.S. and Soviet Submarines, 1945-2001†in my opinion is the best book available on the subject and includes detailed information on the development of Soviet cruise missile submarines. The information on the Soviet submarine designs is based on direct interviews author Norman Polmar had with Russian / Soviet submarine designers and on articles and books published in the Russian Federation in the 1990sAnother book that contains much information on the development of Soviet ballistic and cruise missile submarines is “Russian Strategic Nuclear Forces” by Podvig and Hippel (2004). Chapter 5 “Naval Strategic Nuclear Forces” (pages 235 -337) describes the development of Soviet submarines and their associated missile armaments.“Soviet Submarines: Design, Development, and Tactics†by Breemer (1989) is also useful and interesting although a bit outdated. It offers a fascinating insight to Soviet su.

A nice quick summary of Soviet missile submarine capabilities — lots of pictures and charts.
Excellent book and service
Being a submarine service veteran , I really enjoy reading & learning more about these types of Russian submarines ! A nice addition to my reference material !
At the beginning of the Cold War with the West, the Soviet Union had access to several technologies that would be useful in strategic deterrence. It had a large submarine force and the capacity to build more. Perhaps more importantly, at the close of the Second World War, it captured technology and technicians associated with the German V1 cruise missile program (and V2 ballistic missile program). As author Edward Hampshire relates in this Osprey New Vanguard Series book, the Soviets quickly developed nuclear-armed cruise missiles that could be launched from submarines at strategic targets in the U.S. Later submarines and later cruise missiles would target the U.S. Navy and NATO fleets. The author moves briskly through the various building programs and their results. Coverage of operational deployments is limited, but the narrative does include a wealth of photographs, diagrams, and illustrations. Highly recommended as an informative introduction to the topic, which remains current.
Excellent book outlining all the classes and their equipment and use.
Great book and very good for a submarine enthusiast
Great book informative
