Red alert is a great game and certainly worth buying but you can pick it up in a variety of packages and prices here on retrolio and this one is NOT the most economical. I’ll explain later. Now to the game. Yes red alert is now an old game by PC standards. The graphics are still ok but not obviously up to snuff compared to tiberian sun or it’s sequal red alert 2. Never the less red alert is a blast and might still be the most enjoyable, playable game in the whole command and conquer seris including those newer games. Anybody familiar with any one CnC game basically knows how to play them all because the concept is the same. You need two resources to function. The most important resource is had by making refineries and sending out harvesters to gather it. In this game it is called ore, in tiberian sun it is called tiberian but it all doesn’t matter because the entire game is focused on getting as many harvesters at work as possible and protecting them so you have the credits neccesary to build your military. From an offensive perspective of course you want to try and cut off your opponents harvesters and that’s at least half the game. The other resource is power which is easily had by building power plants from time to time. The game features two very evenly matched sides in a mostly conventional military battle. The russians and the ukrainians on one side and the allies on the other with germany, france and england. The russians and the ukrainians have the bigger more powerful ta.
Having played Warcraft and Warcraft2, I was ready for a more "real life" fighting game with tanks and soldiers. Red Alert was the answer. Overall, Red Alert is great! A person can play as Soviets or Allies with funky weapons unique to both like Tesla Coils or Gap Generators. Additionally, a person can play the game on-line with as many as four players (more with faster Internet connections.) If you like to play strategy and grind your buddy’s head into the dirt at the same time, this game is for you. Oh, and I agree with everyone else – this game is VERY addictive, especially if you play it with buddies over a network or over the Internet. Expect to spend several hours playing.
Ok
Red Alert is the most awesome game ever created. Every thing about it is wonderful, especially the gameplay. Red Alert is best played if you include the "Aftermath" and "Counterstrike" add-ons. Everyone should own a copy of Command and Conquer: Red Alert!!!
Awesome
Super fast delivery great game
Nice game.
An oldie but a goodie!
I love this game! It was way ahead of its time and even after being spoiled with modern graphics I still think this game is amazing. Bad news, be sure to understand this, this game was developed to be used on computers running Windows 95-98. I am not sure exacty platforms will support this so make sure to check. The good news now. If you are using Windows 7, don’t worry. Just download Dosbox and you can basically go through the back door of your computer and play this game. I am no computer wiz and I figured it out watching youtube. Just search Dosbox once you have it on youtube and then find a tutorial. There are ones that show how to do it with red alert. Good luck!
This is quite a classic game. It might be hard to get past the graphics and enjoy the game if you’re used to modern games, but if you can get past the graphics and enjoy the game for the other aspects, you should really enjoy this game.If you enjoyed the other Command and Conquer games, you’ll likely enjoy this one as well. In my opinion, the music on this game and Red Alert 2 is also better than the music on some of the newer Command and Conquer games as well. The single player can be challenging and quite enjoyable. The campaigns had great storylines, fun missions (and some quite frustrating ones too), and cool units. The only downsides that I can see are the old graphics, the Tanya in this game doesn’t seem as good as the one in Red Alert 2, and the actor they selected to play her was better in Red Alert 2 as well.
