I got this because I like to take my NES and SNES to my friend’s house. However, the size of the consoles and my desire to keep them in good condition has made me more reluctant to do so. The Retron 2 is a good solution and an excellent platform to play old Nintendo games on.At a fraction of the price of both an NES and SNES together, this console gives you more money to spend on games. The cartridge ports hold your games securely, but don’t put a ‘death grip’ on them. I haven’t worried about getting my games back out after putting them in. I believe this console “dumps the ROMS” of games, meaning that it’s emulation and not real hardware. This could lead to some lag/latency issues, but I haven’t noticed any. It plays my games, in some cases better than my NES. With an adapter, I was able to play Famicom games, something my NES hasn’t been able to do despite my best efforts. The console uses AV output, the red, yellow, and white plugs. This may be an issue on modern televisions that don’t always have AV, but HDMI would raise the price of the console. I haven’t noticed any difference in video quality between the Retron 2 and real hardware.Despite all the praise I have for the Retron 2 it’s not without flaws. The biggest of these flaws is the controllers that it comes with. They feel cheaper than the original controllers. The NES controller is especially disappointing. First, the proportions are off, the controller is skinnier and taller than the original. The buttons are all pl.
This is the second Retron system I’ve purchased. The first one I bought was a gift for my parents; it was the one that only plays NES games, but same brand as this one. Other reviews of the Retron systems have said that these don’t last… the one I bought for my parents is still alive and kickin’ after 2 years with almost daily use. That said, after spending Thanksgiving with my parents and having a blast playing the old NES games on their system, I decided I wanted my own. Here is what I like about the twin model:*Convenience. Two types of games can play on one machine! Saves room and a lot less wires versus having two separate systems. Can switch back and forth between NES and SNES with just the flip of a button.*Easy to hook up*YAY!! I CAN PLAY MY OLD NINTENDO GAMES!!!Here are some things you should know before buying:*It is light. I mean, alarmingly light to where you aren’t sure that there is anything in the box. Very thin plastic and sounds pretty much hollow if you tap it. Don’t know how well it would hold up if you had kids around who would be rough with it, or if you’re a clumsy drunk.*Just like with the first Retron I bought, the controllers are junk. Very flimsy and really short cords. BUT the system is compatible with the original NES and SNES controllers… so dig out your old ones or buy the originals here on retrolio or ebay. They go for about $5-$10 used.*It has a major death grip on the SNES cartridges. It is a little scary to pull them out. I worry that I will.
Works perfectly, if you miss old school. This thing plays two systems.
This is a great retro system if you’re looking to play your old NES/SNES games. I love it and it works well. Haven’t noticed any issues with it.
Use it almost every day to play killer instinct works great
I am getting back into retro gaming and wanted a way to play my NES games. What I really like about this system over some of its competitors are the dual NES and SNES ports. I can use my classic controllers. Hookup was easy with the red and yellow cables. I recommend using this system on an older tube television. It helps with the nostalgia. :) But seriously, great find, and bring back memories
As described but it is rather difficult to insert and remove game cartridges. Felt like I was going to damage console or the cartridge. Works though, so that made it worth it.
This is an awesome product but the cords that came with it were garbage and had to be replaced because they refused to do their job.
My Husband
Pretty cool. Plays our old games. Kinda cheeply made but works.
