This is probably the best and most addictive game I have ever played. Once you start playing and get a feel of the game, you can watch the hours fly by. The graphics may not be that great, but the gameplay is so tremendous that you can deal with it. The replay value is probably the best part of the game since every time you start a new game a totally new world is created with different tribes who each have their own characteristics making each game brand new. It is nice to play a game where you are not always playing on the same board and know the entire map before you even start playing. This game is highly recommended to any person who has the time to spare and loves strategy games.
civ 4/bts/warlords are great games. took off a star since i cannot review the civilizations portion of this set since i was sent a complete edition that did not include that game. disappointing but the 3 received were what i wanted anyways.
This is a really fun game. I go to the mods and play the beyond the sword content because it gives you more technologies later in the game. If you had problems installing the game remember it’s a DVD not CD. Colonization was one of the first computer games, I played it on MSDOS and the first verstions of Windows (3.1) LOL If you liked this game go to the 2k games site and download the Mod TAC (The Authentic Colonization), it is more like the original but enhanced, it’s a better game and very fun to play, also while you are there you can download the patch for the other games. I had an older copy of Civ IV Complete which had a disk for each game, this has one disk but everything is there. If you are new to the game I suggest using the civilopedia as you play to familiarize yourself with the game concepts and the charts included in the game are very useful as well. I always use the world builder in both civilization and colonization (TAC). You can use it to change the landscape or add units etc. I got in to TAC and have hardly played Beyond the Sword yet! LOL Enjoy your games!
As a long-time computer gamer (I started in 1975 playing the first Star Trek game on Cal Tech’s school computer), I began my Civ experience with the old board game “Civilization”. I gladly picked up the first Civilization game and saw the benefits over the old board game even though the graphics were very crude. I stopped playing Civilization when computer games became more graphical (Age of Empires was the siren that wooed me away).I decided to get back into Civilization with IV, even though V had come out. Reading the reviews on various websites, the majority sentiment was that IV was more enjoyable to play. I agree whole-heartedly with the sentiment.Right now, I’m watching the continuing developments with V, but I’ll stick to IV while they get the “bugs” and “balance right” with V.Also, I was a History Major in college and just LOVE how Sid Meier has made it come alive with this game.
I’ve been playing Civ since it came out. Overseas and US, through various computers. Bought this edition for Civ III to install on a new computer with Windows 8.1.1. Runs like a charm.
I had Civ IV Speacial Edition I couldn’t get to work on my Win 64 machine so I downloaded this version hoping it had been updated to work on Win 7. It did work on the Win 7 64 machine. One thing I did notice in the Civ 4 Main game there arent any Wonder Movies when they are made and the interface if different. Maybe I am missing a setting. So far it it working though and that is what I was looking for.
I was hoping this game would be like a lot of GOTY games, all the expansion packs, but one game. Everything just compatible with each other. It really wasn’t. After install, I had four icons on my desk top and you have to play each one separately. With that said, it’s still an amazing game. And since it’s DRM free, it was really easy to get it on every computer in the house, and not worry about my two year old loosing my disc.Very fun, I’d recommend it to any one who loves these kind of games. I was thrilled to see turns not taking two hours (like Civ III) and having to watch every player make every move through the game. I can get through a game in a good three hours, instead of three days like Civ III.
Got the pack and ripped it open. In the box was a DVD and a tech tree/specification chart, along with a getting started booklet. Loaded the DVD into the laptop optical drive. The install was painless. It checked for Direct X updates then proceeded to load all 4 games. When it was done I did have a hard time finding the game icons as they had been placed in the games folder rather then into a Sid Meyers folder on the start menu. After that brief scramble i started each game checking for updates. None were needed on any of the games. I then started a game of basic Civ 4. The play was great no steam was needed in any aspect of the install or play. All in all a good experience. Now I am going back to my game.
This is the 2nd game I bought as a download from retrolio at a great deal for only $7.50. I wasn’t worried because the first game I download from retrolio worked just fine too. Civ4 is still a brilliant game and graphics wise still holds out against current games. Do note that all the shortcuts install under the “Games” folder in your start menu, so that’s where to find the games.5 stars simply because it’s a great price and you get all the expansions plus colonization.
This game is awesome! I easily got it to work on windows 8 and windows 8.1. These were not the pro or preview versions. After I installed it (recommended and agree with everything) I did not click on the disk icon. You will always get colonization if you click on the disk drive icon. Click on the OS (C:) drive icon. This is usually to the left of the disk drive icon. Next, click on the Program Files, or Program Files (x86) if you have the second one. The number on your program files may be different. Finally, click on the 2K Games folder, then the Fireaxis Games folder, and on either Civilization lV Complete, or Civilization lV Colonization. If you want the expansion packs, click on the Beyond the Sword or Warlords folders after clicking the Civilization lV Complete folder. The game should have the title next to a fancy icon. These will be below the folders. Do not make these desktop icons, there is a glitch which will prevent the game to load. Also, do not click on the icon that has the word Pitboss. You will not get the game, you will get a multiplayer experiment that does not work. I hope I was helpful! I recommend this game to everyone!
