I wanted to teach my kids how to play chess. They watch too much TV and play too many video games. It’s hard to get them to play anything else. So I bought “No Stress Chess” and it was an instant success. There is essentially no learning curve since it is played with cards which provide the move. We were having fun right away. Both kids arguing to play me next. The use of playing cards to determine the next move is a helpful equalizer. Within a few days we advanced to regular chess and now play either one depending on our mood and how much time we have. “No Stress Chess” moves along a bit faster. My 5 and 8 year olds play each other quite well.I would recommend “No Stress Chess” for any child or adult as a fun gave to have-whether you think you will like chess or not. You will love this game. And it really lives up to its name. The playing cards really do remove the stress!
There are three methods to play this game.The first method is you draw a single card and you must move the piece on the card. Each card in the game shows a specific chess piece, it descibes how the piece can move.I have a 6 year old son, and with No Stress Chess he is able to play. The great part of this game is that it teaches how the pieces move in a very easy to understand way.The second method is drawing three cards, and making decisions about which piece you would like to move.My 11 year old likes to play this way, she is getting into chess and this continues to teach her about positioning and making wise decisions.The third method is not using the cards at all.One of the best reasons for getting this game is that it handicaps a seasoned player just enough to make it fun for the kids to play with them.I would highly recommend this product to ANYONE with kids who have an interest in learning how to play chess.
I don’t write reviews often but I will for this. My son has been asking occasionally to learn chess for a year or so (he’s five) but I thought he was too young for such a complicated game and I don’t know how to play so I worried about how to even teach him. Within one hour he and I both had it figured out. I couldn’t believe how quickly he picked it up. Within a couple days we graduated from unguided play to free play and he was already using some pretty sophisticated strategy. He loves it so much that I can now encourage him to get ready quickly in the morning so we play a game or two at the breakfast table before school starts. Now after just a week he’s asking to join the chess club that meets at the local library so he can learn more. It’s just incredible. I can’t recommend it enough.
I haven’t played chess in years, but my grandsons are just learning and I wanted to get back in the game, so I could play with them. This set looked like a good way to get reacquainted, so I ordered it. It arrived a few days ago and the boys were just as anxious as me to start a game. The dual board worked well for us. The older boy wanted to play a traditional game, and show me the moves himself. The younger boy was happy to use the cards and the other side of the board with the moves marked on it. It’s a good first set for us. I’m happy with the purchase.
I always wanted to play chess, but couldn’t find anyone to spend time to teach me. Not only can I play, but my son and I both learned and we love it. No Stress Chess has far exceeded my expectations. I just had to clarify a couple of things (with a chess player) about pawns and everything else was clear. It truly was easy to learn [how the pieces move]. Now, we don’t use the cards anymore, although I think they are very fun. I wish I had learned about this game years ago, but I’m glad I found it when I did. As far as quality, I think it is durable and good. I can’t figure out why anyone would complain about quality because it is a game to learn. Later, when I find a really nice chess set I want, I will buy it, but I would never get rid of this one and I know it will last.
Fun way to learn chess for beginners, and a new challenge for those who already know how to play chess! This has been perfect for my boys to play together while my older son is teaching his younger brother the rules of chess.
This is an excellent game for anyone who wants to learn how to play chess. It’s so fun that you don’t even realize you are learning, you just play a fun game. There are lots of great reviews explaining how the game works, and it really is a simple way to learn the basics of a difficult game. We gave it to our Nintendo/X-Box/video game addicted 10 year old son and he loved this. Do yourself a favor and grab one of these for a Christmas gift.
Have always wanted to learn how to play chess but was just too intimidated by how complicated it appeared. Figured there was no better time than being stuck inside so much due to the covid-19 stay at home orders… This card game system makes it SUPER easy to learn. By the time my wife and I had reached the comfort of playing a few games at “Level 2” we were bored with the cards holding our hands and jumped to playing without them. Absolutely love this game and am starting to research the more advanced strategies. Thanks, Winning Moves, you created the perfect system to let me find a new love!!! At 32 years of age, I wish I had found this 10 years ago! Will hold onto this set to teach my son when he’s older, and friends once this pandemic is over!
My son told me he had played this at school and I was so excited – I didn’t think he was ready to learn chess yet. But he seemed like he was into it so I ordered a set for our house. Both my 8 and 6 year old love it and have quickly learned the rules of chess and how all the pieces move. My husband and I enjoy playing with them, and it’s great how the game handicaps us so the kids have a better chance of winning. Highly recommend for families with elementary-age kids.
My five year old was able to comprehend the game (without the helper cards) by the third time we played!! Absolutely awesome way to teach a kid to chess. Highly recommend! We can’t even beat the little buggar!
