Worked great when we first bought it but then quit working a few months after our purchase. Not sure if it was the game or our system.
I wanted something akin to Mario Kart to play on My Xbox One X, so I ordered this hoping it would at least be a playable clone. In my opinion, it actually competes fairly well with the ‘Kart franchise, and is a blast to play. It heavily borrows some elements, while introducing enough new concepts to (almost) have its own identity. While you can tell it’s an Xbox 360 game, the graphics hold up well and the performance and load times are fine. Getting multiple accounts signed in is a little bit of a hassle, as is figuring out how to change settings for that player (must be in a race), but it’s not too bad with a quick Google search. I don’t feel like it benefits much from the extra horsepower, but overall it’s a good experience… I had one lock up in 10 or so hours of playing, otherwise it’s been rock solid. There’s plenty of content and play modes, lots to unlock, and it’s very accessible. On the easy difficulty you can get by with limited racing/kart experience and without having to drift or aim that well, and at higher difficulty you can showcase your skills (or get punished for drifting off course hehe). The characters have a progression element although it’s not hard to level them up, and once you have you can prioritize speed, handling, acceleration, etc. It’s not overly deep, but adds a nice element of customization if your favorite character is too slow by default. I’ve mostly been playing split screen, haven’t tried 4 player yet, but 2 works just fine. The different ve.
When I first saw this game, I admit I didn’t have very high expectations. Sonic games have been extremely hit and miss lately, and in my opinion there really hasn’t been a good cart racer since Mario Kart Double Dash. This game exceeded my expectations and became one of my favorite racing games of all time. Most of the other reviews have hit most of the good points, but I just want to highlight some of the best parts. The World Tour mode is the main way you unlock tracks and racers, and while in most other racers this would be single player, in SASRT you can play ANY mode with ANY number of players. That was a big one for me – you can start unlocking characters and doing challenges with your friends right out of the box. The character balance seems good and the computer player rubber banding is minimal and most of the time I don’t even notice it. If you are good at the game, you will do well, and the game won’t screw you over. The only downside to the game is that there are a few minor glitches here and there, but these become fewer and more far between as the game releases more patches. Additionally, there is some model inconsistency on tracks – i.e. you will clearly make a narrow gap but the game thinks you hit a wall and you will stop dead in your tracks. Again, this is rare, and as you learn the courses you navigate these parts more smoothly, but it can be frustrating when it happens. Overall this game is awesome and well polished, and a great addition to anyone’s collectio.
IMO, this is one of the best Sonic games out there. Some races you have a car, then it turns into a boat and sometimes an airplane. The grand kids (and big kids) all like racing games. This has a lot of levels to it. (World Tour) A lot of areas to unlock. A lot of characters to unlock. You collect a star for each race passed and it takes a certain number of stars to unlock new stages and characters. Different difficulty stages. Easy & medium stage place at least 3rd place. For hard stage you have to take 1st place. A star awarded for each stage. The younger grand kids like the easy and medium stages. The older ones like the challenge of the hard stage. There are lots of other stages to pass besides races. There are sprints, traffic attacks, boost challenge, etc.For the money there is a lot of play in this game. We all thought the graphics for this game was outstanding. There is the "Career", "Match Making" & "Custom Game". "World Tour", "Grand Prix", "Time Attack", & "Single Race". Lots of playing time.Xbox Live there is online multiplayer 1-10. Co-op 1-10 players. Also has voice capability.Xbox 360 players 1-4 Co-op 2-4HDTV 720P/1080i/1080p
This hame is a blast! You can race alone or against each other. My 3 year old loves it! We start on easy level. As he masters that we can go to medium then hard. He loves that the vehicle transforms! The controls are easy enough for this 50 year old mom to figure out how to use! So I can play with him which he also likes! My teens like it because of the different characters and challenges and they can play with youngest brother and he can actually keep up. It’s clean and I love that. We discovered this game in the back of a hot wheels game box. If you have a kiddo that likes racing or cars they will love this game! It’s our most played game!
The previous game, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, was nicely done but did seem like a clone of a more famous kart racer. This time around, Sega made a great game that stands on its own, and at a very reasonable price. There are several features that differentiate this game from other kart racers:1. Vehicles change between cars, boats, and planes at certain points in each course. Usually the course is altered in some way (the ground collapsing, barricades going up, etc.) so that your three laps are not identical. In addition to the different driving styles for these vehicles, there is also some strategy in trying to find shortcuts that get you into a faster vehicle (the plane) sooner. There are plenty of shortcuts to find.2. The multiplayer is excellent. Unlike other racing games, even the career mode can be played in co-op. As long as one player meets the requirements for passing the race or challenge, both players get to move on–cooperation without frustration! It’s also nice not to have to beat the career in single player before the multiplayer is worthwhile.3. The career mode has different game types, which reminds me more of realistic racing games. There are drifting challenges, timed laps, battle races, and one delightful game type where you have to chase down and destroy a tank.Overall, this is a great kart racer. Don’t worry about this being too much of a kids’ game, either, because to beat the various races on the highest challenge level takes a lot of skill and patie.
Talk about nostalgic, I used to play sonic with my little brother when I was a kid. Now I get to play with my son. He LOVES this game.
I bought Sonic ASRT to have a multiplayer x-box game that didn’t involve shooting people. Even the skeptics among my friends, who thought they’d hate it, have come to enjoy playing it for hours when I come over. The maps are visually interesting and range from moderately challenging to very difficult. Besides straight racing maps, the career mode also throws in a variety of challenges to mix things up. Some of these challenges are actually more fun than the actual races (in my opinion of course). The transitions between cars, boats, and planes keep the game fresh, interesting, and challenging. As for multiplayer abilities, the game lets you play up to 4 players through the entire career mode. Players can join in and drop out at will, and a level is passed as long as one player meets the race/challenge requirements. Also, you can do up to 4 players in circuit race, which pits the players against computers just like in career mode, except that this time each player (human and computer) is given points based on how they place in each of 4 or 5 races. The player with the most points at the end wins. Now for the reason I only gave it 4 stars. As far as I can tell, the game doesn’t have a "Team Circuit Race" option where 4 players could join up with a couple computers and share points while racing a circuit against another team of computers. This means that my multiplayer options are limited to career mode and circuit race. Circuit race isn’t cooperative, and makes it feel lik.
Great alternative to Mario cart for Xbox. Best of all it works on 360 and Xbox one.
My wife and I were looking for a game like Mario Kart that we could play on our Xbox One. This is as close as it gets. It’s a good game for everyone to play as you can play online, split screen, or both. It takes a bit to learn how to drift, which is where the real speed comes from.
