Black And Bruised is an obscure game. It’s a boxing game. No, not a fighting game disguised as a boxing game like Facebreaker, I mean a legit boxing game. The question is, is it worth a spot on your shelf or does it deserve to stay unknown?Story is…well the story is kinda divided between fighters like most fighting games. Basically all the characters want something (Money, fame, power, etc.) And can only get it through boxing. You see these stories in the Boxer’s Life mode, where you play six fights with your chosen boxer and see the story of how they get what they want. With cut scenes, might I add. Though talking is done by the narrator, the boxers only talk during the fights.Gameplay is, as mentioned, a boxing match. The larger boxers move slower but hit harder, and the smaller boxers move faster but don’t pack as much of a punch. Just pick your playing style. You have an arsenal of high and low punches, blocks and low blocks, as well as power ups. A power up icon appears between the health bars. The boxers have stars above their health bars, and the first fighter to fill the meter gets the power up. Once they have it, they can either use it right there or keep fighting to upgrade it. Some of the power ups are pretty handy, others don’t make much sense. There is one particular power up that becomes a problem, but we’ll mention that later. The rounds are timed, and after each round, a bell goes off and the boxers return to their corners. They spit banter.
