I love Backbreaker, but not for the game of football. I love it for its advanced physics engine (Euphoria) and its different perspective for playing the game. I give them credit for trying to make a full fledged american football game, but they are several years behind Madden with experience. The standard game simply cannot compare (yet) to a Madden game. It is a good effort, but definitely not worth the purchase. What IS worth buying Backbreaker is Tackle Alley. You can give this a try in the Backbreaker demo or the Ipod app, but the fun really begins with the retail version. 100 waves of avoiding enemies is a surprising blast! Even when you fail to beat a wave, there is something very satisfying about watching your failure through a unique tackle. Even better, in my opinion, is the competitive 2 player mode for Tackle Alley. Racing at, or next to your opponent is fun, intense, and often hilarious. Two player even adds a little extra strategy when you decide to attack the field, or avoid all the CPU players altogether (thus not receiving many points).I think Tackle Alley is the perfect outlet for admiring and appreciating the tech involved in Backbreaker. I hope someday the full football game will be as incredible, but for now it is flawed and difficult. I think most of this can be blamed on the fact that players are simulated, not animated, so they act more intelligently they a normal game probably should (so making a good pass is near impossible, but throwing an intercepti.
my son’s love it! Great game!
it able to add more teams them madden its a buy i wound like to see more from them the game play is great and you can do a lot on this game its so great
This is a great game. I have several friends and we enjoy playing it. Very different with a split screen view must be aware at all times of which part of the screen I am playing on. I recently sent to my son in law I am waiting for his reaction to the game.
Pros: It’s fun, has simple/responsive controls, the action feels more realistic. Let’s not forget Tackle Alley.Cons: Small Playbook, questionable penalties, questionable A.I., weak instant Replay system/unique moments that you can’t save.Remember, in this game you play as a single player on a team, not a guy in a blimp controlling all that he surveys. Can you handle that?
great buy!
Got it in good working order. Considering I bought used it has no scratches on the disk and works as it should.
Finally an alternative to the Madden football games we’ve all been forced to play since EA gained exclusivity of the NFL license. If you were one of the few to pick up All-Pro 2K8 you’ll know that, without the NFL logos, the game of American football seems to appear a bit different. While All-Pro 2K8 was a decent comeback for the team responsible for the finest football game to date (NFL2K5), 2K sports just couldn’t compete with the Madden marketing juggernaught and, sadly, gamers never got to see an updated version of All-Pro.Flash forward three years and out comes a new contender in “Backbreaker.” Hopes were high, but expectations had to be set low, for this new football game coming from Natural Motion and 505 Studios. You really need to see this game running in all of its glory to appreciate what 505 has done here. Like their marketing has boasted, “there are no canned routines and every tackle IS different.” Linemen move realistically, players obey the rules of football and the animation engine never seems to quit giving of itself. Some hits are brutal, some are downright hilarious and some hits I’ve seen would kill a person if they happened on the field. Sure the crowd animations are limited and the characters look like sculpted-robot-men from the future but, at its core, Backbreaker is a very solid first outing and definitely has the components to build an even greater football experience their next time around. As for now, at $49.99, you can’t find a better reason to sto.
This game may have been ahead of it’s time. The camera angles and gameplay can definitely be jarring from an EA or 2K game. It’s a different type of experience that every football game player should play. Add it to your collection
