Ive been waiting since the idea of franchise mode for a baseball game to include it, and its finally here. With Trades,Free Agents, and best of all, a farm team, this game provides the most options to create a roster. Also, the addition of the 15 and 60 day DL creates even more chances to mimic reality. Players get better, or worse, depending on age. Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of this game is the Stadium and Throwback jersey options.. I was overjoyed to see another game at Tiger Stadium, and the chance to try and homer over the centerfield wall at the Polo Grounds. The graphics are beyond comparison, and the gameplay, contrary to other reviews, is quite good. Hitting SHOULDNT be easy, because the homer happy Triple Play series is extremly irritating. The Pitching interface requires you to mix your pitches and hit your spots. Anyone complaining about those two aspects is seriously missing the greatest joys in this (or any) baseball game. I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a baseball game to spend thier summer playing.
Hey, If you are a first time at sport games and you dont know wat to choose, i recomend strongly, All Star Baseball 2003. The graphics are unbelieveable, believe me, I’ve played other baseball games for Nintendo 64 and this one blows all the other ones out of the water. If you can only play one sports game out of the year, I strongly recomend All-Star Baseball 2003!
All Star Baseball is the best baseball game for PS2. But it still needs a little work.Pros: Excellent graphicsGreat CommentaryDetailed Create-A-PlayerExpansion and Franchise modeGreat Sim gameScores aren’t always 26-20 like they are on Triple Play (the scores are usually something around 7-4)Mid-Windup Pickoff AttemptFuture throw makes your throws get to the base quicklyBroken BatsMascotsCons:Batting Cursor is hardHard to baserunWithout the future throw, my throws to the bags are too shortRelievers last just 2/3 inningOverall, a great game that is easily beating the competition. Nice game.
This is without a doubt one of the greatest if not the greatest baseball video game ever. Having played all the others there is nothing like ASB 2003. The game has great detail on a lot of areas that I think make baseball the most unique sport in the world and makes baseball America’s national game. The game has minor leaguers that are real players who are really in the big leagues team farm system. I could go on but words don’t describe how good this game is. I would just say go out and buy it. It is well worth the money. But a warning this game is really for true fans of the National Past Time.
This game is the best baseball game for the PS2 hands down! I have played most of them and this one kills them. If you’ve played ASB2002 and enjoyed it you will love 2003. It is a ton better with a lot of added options and animations. The gameplay and graphics are the most life like of all the baseball games. The options available kill all the competitor games as well, such as franchise mode with expansion clubs and farm leagues. Imagine creating you own club and playing and managing it over the next 20 years.Trust me when I say this game kills the other main PS2 baseball games (Triple Play, High Heat). If you want a game that looks like a cartoon and the game scores are 22-25 (that is just 5 innings) and your pitchers ERA’s are like 30.00, then get Triple Play. If you want a PS1 like game with weak options and lousy animation then get High Heat. But if you want a great sim game that makes you feel like you are actually playing or watching a real game then you need to get ASB2003!Lastly, the reason I didn’t give the game five stars is for a few things that Acclaim can improve on. One thing is that I think the pitching got harder in 2003 as opposed to the 2002 version. The computer seems to hit a lot of extra base hits and not near as many strikeouts (even on ROOKIE level). Also you can break your bat in 2003, but I broke 4 in just the first 2 innings in a game (A little high I thought). Another big one is that you can’t have a shorter season in expansion or franchis.
All Star 2003 is mos def the best baseball game I’ve played. It tops my old all time favorite World Series 95 for Sega. The expansion mode makes the whole game. You start off with a pretty bad team. You can finish almost .500 depending on who and how you draft your team. The only thing [] it is you play the same schedule year after year in expansion mode. Its not like Madden 2002 or NCAA 2002 where you play different schedules every year. But with 162 games a year, it doesn’t get too old. The thing thats tight is that every year you get new players into your farm system and you get to watch them develop. Some players develop and others don’t. As far as the gameplay, its pretty much the same from 2002, slow reaction from the outfielders and very unlikely to throw a runner out at a base. But the expansion and franchise make the game awesome.
This game is the best baseball game u can buy today. It has all the teams, all the stadiums and more. Graphically it doesn’t quite match up with EA Sport’s Triple Play, but it does offer many other features that EA doesn’t provide. A couple features from the gameplay. – The part i liked most about being at bat, is the way it keeps track of your previous at bats. It tells you where you hit the ball on the field, what kind of pitch you hit and where the pitch was located in the strike zone. – The batting is a bit difficult but if you use the batting practice mode, you’ll get better in no time. -The feilding in this game is great. The advance bas throw is amazing. If you are used to playing Triple Play it might take a bit of getting used to it, but sone you’ll be turning Double Plays with ease. Here are a couple from the franchise mode: – Expansion: Let’s u choose from many big citys/towns/states from across the US, including: Sacremento, Jacksonville, Virginia, DC, and even Alaska. – Farm Team: I have waited years for a good game to have a farm team. No more players living forever. Now when your all-star players retire, you have a brand new crop of players to replace them. This is one of the most difficult parts of the game. You must use your best judgement in when to bring up your young players and when sending them back down to the minors would be better than them sticking it out in the bigs. – History: This game is great at keeping you up-to-date on the past. It keeps t.
I really wish all these video game companies could combine all the different aspects to one amazing game. When I first played this game, I thought my wish was going to be granted. The graphics and the detail in this game is superb. (From the start of the baseball game to the player’s faces.) Even the pitching is great. I was playing against Randy Johnson and he was really hard to hit. Those fastballs came wizzing in and you could tell it was him on the mound. I will keep this short as you probably read other reviews. My only problem with the game is that the Franchise Mode and Season Mode is only 1 player. You can’t have 2 human teams which I think is a major error on their part. My friend and I were looking forward to each running our own team, but we couldn’t. The only other problem is the delay of the player’s throwing the ball in the field. Other than those two, it is a really good baseball game.
The only baseball game I have ever played for PS/PS2 is the TP series. I owned every one since 97, but this year I thought the series was growing very stale, especially in the commentary department. As a TP user, the controls in ASBB neary frustrated me to the point of immediately putting the game on ebay after a few hours. But once, you get used to the controls it is very easy. For example, when fielding, you can hit the base you want to throw to before the fielder gets the ball, so as soon as he gets it, he immediately throws to the base with no delays. Also the batting cursor is very adjustable so you can hit it exactly where and how you want to.The graphics are very life-like and the animation is very realistic also. I have not seen more realistic facial renderings in a game before. When a player comes up to bat, you can tell who it is just by looking at him, instead of reading the text. The music is pretty bland and the commentary is ordinary, but at least you don’t get burnt out on the same 12 generic one-liners like in Triple Play. The only thing keeping me from giving the game a five star rating is the options and features. Under season mode, you can only play a full or half season. Unlike triple play, which allows short seasons of 13 to 20 or so games. This is important to me because I don’t have the time to play a full or even a half season, especially in franchise mode, when I am anxious to get to trades. Also, you can not play a game of less than 9 innings, which wo.
So far this is the most fun, most attractive game ever made. I purchased this game not too long ago and I have been playing it non stop, right now im at the all-star break and i have collected many baseball cards which is a side feature in the game. I also love the trivia, itsgreat for when you and your friends have disputes over who knows the most about baseball. This game flat out rocks, and its better for PS2 over the Gamecube because you only need one memory card to save it on the PS2, while Gamecube u need a special extra memory card made by a third party publisher, which usually break down after a week of use, or you need 2 cards … SO GO GET IT FOR THE PS2 RIGHT NOW IF YOU NEEDA GREAT BASEBALL GAME!
