Unique and very entertaining game. Extremely story driven but the gameplay is also difficult but rewarding. Altus has put out a very special title and it is definitely a game I recommend to those who are looking for something different.
Very interesting, unique game. Definitely one of the most underrated, games of the generation given the quality/engaging and unique feel it has. Be careful though, this game is tough and will keep you on age and sometimes you will rage endlessly at random stuff that happens, especially during boss encounters. Regardless, if you like puzzle games this game will challenge you considerably. Once you are done with the main game, their is another mini game that is equally as challenging in my opinion and stretches for an insane amount of rounds.Good luck!
REALLY GOOD GAME!!!The focus is definitely on the story rather than the gameplay, but it’s not bad at all. I feel like the story mode has too many levels, especially near the end, but there are playthroughs online of how to get through each level in case you get irritated.I found that the time between nights, which is used for story development, is too short compared to how long the gameplay takes.Don’t play if you hate having to redo things until you reach an answer.
This game is silly, fun and very inappropriate. I loved it. The story was fun and the gameplay was good. The reason I dinged a star is that about half way through it, I got kinda bored of it. The gameplay is basically the same thing over and over again, they just change the layout and add some new challenges to it.I would recommend this to a friend
If you love games that test your mind this is a good one. The puzzles are similar in nature but always increasing in difficulty. The storyline is solid and interesting enough to be worth paying attention to, while also unique in a video game world of same old, same old. Graphics looks great and the game moved smoothly without choppiness. A fantastic purchase for anyone desperately waiting for a Portal sequel that will probably never appear.
i absolutely love this game. probably one of my favorites ever. completely unique experience from anything ive ever played, and probably unique from anything that exists. but beware, this game WILL kick your ass. if you dont like losing, and you dont like a challenge, i wouldnt recommend this game, it is very hardcore as far as difficulty goes. you WILL die A LOT. but its very rewarding when you finally make it through. and has a great story to go along with it.
I recently bought ‘Heavy Rain’ and was amazed by how in-depth the story was and just how amazing how into the entire thing I was. Definitely one of the best story-based games ever! Now, I have always preferred story over action. An hour of a great story beats nine hours of action any day. So when I found ‘Catherine’ and saw how it was a story-based game and was being compared to ‘Heavy Rain’ in it being in-depth I figured I would check it out. Here’s the thing about ‘Catherine’…it’s a puzzle game, not an ‘interactive drama’ like ‘Heavy Rain’. It is clearly more centered around the puzzle aspects than the story. Cleary. Not to say the puzzling is bad, but along the line you reaaaally start to loath the amount of time it takes to complete the puzzles, especially when you’re enthralled with the story. You want to see the conclusion, but suddenly you’re whisked away to do more puzzles. The times when you’re at the ‘central-hub’ of the game, the bar, were by far my favorite aspects. There are a WIDE range of story-related tasks you can undertake and it really puts you into the main character’s shoes. What should you take from my review? This is a PUZZLE game, not an ‘interactive drama’. But don’t get dragged down too far; the times where there IS story, it’s incredible.
A brilliant all rounded game every open minded gamer owes themselves to play. The puzzle based mechanics are unlike any other; 3-D block puzzles are dynamic and exciting to mess around with, and everything runs on a timer in each level, that keeps the tension high and block manipulation at a fine speed. The story and gameplay are both highlights, and the voice work is amazing too. No other game, except for maybe Ni No Kuni has such a refreshing and definitive look, it truly looks like you’re inside an anime, the graphics look that good. There is also a sort of morality system to be found in the game and the game has several endings that are defined by the decisions and actions we make in the make. Must play!
My 16 year old loves the hell out of this game and nearly screamed when he unwrapped it. I havent seen much of him since he received this. But I think I heard he beat it and was going to play through again. He also seemed happily surprised that it was 2 player.
Catherine is a blend of a lot of unlikely things… 30% Japanese dating sim, 20% campy horror movie, 40% highly advanced puzzle game, and 10% Kafka short story. (Maybe.)Despite the occasional corny moment in the plot, Catherine has a fairly engaging storyline. Enough that you’ll be motivated to play through the various “relationship options” and unlock the alternate endings (or at least, cheaply scavenge them off youtube.) There’s also a whole system of Chaos VS Law (as opposed to Good VS Evil) that, at times, can be surprisingly thought provoking.Ultimately, this game would still be worth playing if it had no storyline whatsoever though. The puzzles are really that good. It’s a bit more algorithmic than say, a game like Dr.Mario, which means there is SOME learning curve involved. Still, the mechanics are fairly simple. You play a regular(ish) person trapped at the very bottom of a fairly perilous block game matrix, and you have to climb and manipulate the boxes to reach the top without being killed by one dangerous thing or another. (Everything also falls into nothingness and you die if you move too slow.) It’s sort of like a violent deconstruction of Tetris; you’re working from the bottom up and avoiding the erasure of blocks, rather than from the top down and eliminating them. The puzzle gameplay pretty much never gets old and can be incredibly challenging. There are even some unlockable competitive modes- some of which get really tough. As for negatives: Sometimes the musi.
