I’m about half way through the game on my first playthrough and so far it is much better than the first game. The world is much larger and there are a lot more places to explore. The characters are much more varied than the first game as well. Each feels unique and has multiple roles it can take. The talent trees are set up the same as the first but it does seem like many skills are useful, more like they are fillers. The characters don’t seem as overpowered as the first yet and the game is more challenging, at least the enemies do a lot more damage. The environments are also much more varied than the first and there are many more enemies. The enemies are also much more interesting. *** MILD SPOILER*** For example, it is pretty fun shooting off a Goliath’s head and trying to get him to level up all the way by killing other enemies. ***END SPOILER***The only issue I have is that I have not received my pre-order promotional code from retrolio. I did not change my score for that of course because it is unrelated to the game but I’m putting it in here. I have an email to retrolio and may amend the review if the issue is resolved.Update: Received an email with the code within a few hours of contacting customer service. Thanks for the quick response.
To be honest,I was a bit skeptical of buying this game. To me, the first Borderlands was a hit-and-miss kind of game. You either loved it or you hated it. I didn’t love it. The only thing that got me through the boring and tasteless campaign was the fact that I could level up alongside some of my friends on Xbox Live. Other than that, when the credits finally rolled, I felt like I had just wasted twenty hours of my life. I pre-ordered Borderlands 2 just a few days before its release, with the knowledge that there would be diverse environments, new characters, and a better and more interesting story line. I am glad I did, because Borderlands 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, and is easily competition for Halo 4, Far Cry 3, Black Ops 2, and the like.Story: Without giving out too much, there actually is a very interesting and fun story to play through. I have played through it twice, and found it good both times. You play as a new vault hunter, who is targeted by the cruel and somewhat hilarious Handsome Jack. He despises you, hates you, and yet can make you laugh time after time. He reminds me of Glados from the Portal series. You also get to play alongside the former vault hunters from the original Borderlands, so you actually learn more about them as well. Even the side missions that I considered a chore in the first game were unique and interesting, some being better than others. Some are insanely difficult, while others take one bullet.Gameplay: Gearbox does a grea.
Super addictive 1st person shooter. The graphics are amazing, as i much prefer the more fun, explosive, cartoonish videogame style animation than realer-than-life human beings being slaughtered like CoD, thats kinda weird to me how obsessed people can get with that. A lot of the dialogue in game between characters is hysterical as well. Really cool story-line throughout the whole game, doesnt disappoint.A lot of playability value with all the characters and leveling up options for customization. The endlessly vast array of weapons available is also very stimulating. Once you really start to get crackin in the higher levels and finding unique items, theres no turning back. The online play is excellent as long as you have a strong connection. The commando is dope but in the higher levels its almost unfair how godly he can be. Gunzerker is real fun to play since there are so many mind-blowing weapon options with the duel-wielding. The siren is ok but got kinda boring for me, much prefer the assassin. You will spend many hours lost in this game, enjoy it.
Game is amazing period. Point blank. 2k took the original concept of Diablo in Borderlands and transfered it seemlessly into a fps. Borderlands 2 has taken that and ran. Sooooooo many weapons and items. The story is engrossing but the game does not take its self too seriously the humor is always appreciated. Being able to reconstruct your character any time is a wonderfull addition and could serioussly be needed in a derth of other rpgs. The guns look and feel amazing anything from a derringer to a mighty rocket launcher. Graphically the game is cel shaded and probably the greatest cel shaded game ever. I have noticed a little late texture loading but nothing game stopping. I can only wait with baited breath for each DLC and eventually a Borderlands 3. See game makers sometimes it pays to take a risk.
Love Borderlands and number 2 just ups the action/humor/playstyle. I think this is better than the first in every way. A little more grindy then the first but it was an enjoyable experience
Expanding upon the time-sinking Borderlands, this game actually manages to improve upon the original, instead of suck from it. Although the original character classes are retired, the new classes are fun in their own right. And you’ll waste just as many hours, bouncing around Pandora, killing bandits and monsters, and picking up loot and achievements. The new Mechromancer class, though, should have come with the game instead later as an add-on. Once I started playing her, I rarely went back to my assassin. My only complaint is that Gearbox isn’t upgrading the game with the DLCs or TVH mode – once you hit the cap, you’ve hit the cap. No more ammo, no more levels, it almost makes the game disinteresting once you hit level 50. And the big bosses are literally impossible for a single player to defeat. I resent being forced into co-op play just to defeat a boss. Hence the removal of one star on the overall rating.Listen to the players, Gearbox – give us something to do with all that Eridium! Give higher ammo caps for TVH mode! And make the big bosses manageable for single players!
what a great game. this game is so interesting, and has so many different types of bad guys/monsters, you could barely want for more. it’s as good as the first if not better. i chose to be the sniper character, and am somewhat regretting it. i think i would have been better suited with the commando. i chose the sniper based almost solely on the malachai character in the first one. there are similarities, but no bloodwing! i was bummed. my favorite thing about the game is the addition of the robot bad guys, or “loaders.” i could play a game just battling them, and i cherish the missions where they are present. there are only a couple things that have been aggravating:- i was in the hideout (the one with mad mike). i was about half way through the map and was out of ammo, so i went back to the beginning of the map to get ammo (not transport, just back to the 1st room on the map). once i loaded up on ammo, i started running back through the rooms i previously cleared, but they were loaded with bad guys again! this has happened 2x to me. the next time it happened was at the animal preserve.- i’ll be danged if i can find any orange loot. i know it is super rare, but i have searched high and low and never find anything orange. and other than the 2 purple weapons i found in the chest in sanctuary, i’ve barely found purple either.- i got to the end of a map, right before a boss battle and saw a fast travel station. i thought, instead of running back to the beginning of the map to get.
Although I had played the original Borderlands I wasn’t blown away with it. BL2 however is over the top non-stop fun. Everything I did enjoy about the original returns and improvements were made all around. As you spend hour after hour playing through missions, blasting enemies, and looting everything in sight, you’ll find yourself having one of the best gaming experiences of this generation. If you enjoy easy to use and exciting co-op play than BL2 is one of the best options available. Joining a game is easy, the community is great, and new expansions are constantly arriving thanks to the team at Gear Box.
There’s many great, complete reviews out there, so I won’t go to length to describe what makes this game great. It is almost the perfect sequel, but there’s too much stupid humor thrown in that constantly barrages you for the duration of the game. The one thing that keeps me from giving this game 5 stars is the humor. I understand that most players are teen boys, but not everyone enjoys this immature humor that stoops to almost insulting levels. So much of it relies on outdated or soon to be outdated memes. I found the original game’s humor clever, but Borderlands 2 goes too far. I don’t enjoy that every toilet says "no fapping". So many of the callouts and cutscene dialogue feels so terribly forced and lame. Bonerfarts? REALLY?! Lowbrow humor is okay, but poorly executed lowbrow humor that bombards you for the entirety of the game is awful and tasteless.Turning off player callouts helped some, but I think this game would have been SO much better and less annoying if they had just toned it down a little bit. Each joke would have been much funnier in more moderation.
If you like FPS, or RPG’s, or both, buy this and do it now. This game is great for many reasons, including:*Online co-op: This is done super well. Matchmaking is great, playing with friends or strangers increases enemy difficult, gets you better loot drops, and increase iridium (a type of currency for buying updates) drops*Rich character & plot development: Really brings you into the game. The plot is fun and entertaining as are the characters.*The action is fun and intense*"Bad@ss" Point system: I love the "Bad@ss" points system, really fun to complete the challenges and then get rewarded in a meaningful way.*GOlden keys: Gear box gives out golden keys through multiple outlets, like Facebook and twitter.* Character selection: total of 5 characters with their own strengths and weaknesses. Just the right amount of character development to keep the game action orientedGearbox did really good with this game. I can play it for hours. Some of my friends have played through it no less than 10 times. Really great replay value. Again, buy this game and do it now. Then come play with us.
