Joust is addictive. Even if you don’t like the other games, you will definitely love Joust. (Your thumb will probably get really sore from flapping those Ostrich wings, though!) Defender is excellent as well. It’s also cool how you can go from one game to the other so smoothly. I’ve seen other collections that you would have to reset the game to play a different game and this one is easy as pie to switch to something else.
Excellent deal for the price
This disc is perfect! I mainly bought it for the game robotron but the graphics are superb. I bought a similar disc and it just wasn’t the same, close but not as close as this one! Now I don’t have to waste quarters on that game Defender (I used to hate that game). Sure it’s different than using the joystick and fire button but what do you expect!?
Oh boy, this has got to be the one of the coolest cd’s I’ve ever bought for my playstation console! All the awesome games I used to love playing at the local arcades right here in my living room, without dropping 300 quarters a week. :) I forgot just how much fun I used to have playing these games.This cd features ROBOTRON, JOUST, DEFENDER 1, DEFENDER 2, SINISTAR, AND BUBBLE BOBBLE, all perfectly emulated! Even the original "bugs", original sounds, etc…they’re all there! "Arcades Greatest Hits" is surely an appropriate title! You should also check out "Arcades Greatest Hits 2" which features MORE incredible retro 80’s games we all still love.Conclusion: If you loved these games in the 80’s, you’ll love them even more today! Especially, when you don’t have to keep inserting quarters all the time into the machine. :) Don’t delay, buy this cd today! You won’t be dissapointed.
Williams made games for hard-core arcade gamers and this collection proves it. Setting aside "Bubbles", a misguided effort to be cute, the collection is 2-D, testosterone-driven mayhem, with titles that gamers of that era still revere: Defender, Stargate, Robotron, Sinistar, and Joust. The emulation is perfect — you can even view the operator statistics and set the arcade’s welcome message. Only regret: this disc pre-dates the Sony dual-shock analog controller, whose two joysticks would have been *perfect* for Robotron.
brought back alot of good memmories. Reccomend the joystick paddle with the authentic buttons, for full effect. I Loved it.
we still need every arcade game from the 1980’s made. still not ever made: rescue, mr. do’s castle, rygar, crime stoppers, jr. pacman, challenger, tron, and popeye.
Yes, I bought this game for Sinistar and Sinistar only. Though I was pleasently surprised when I played some of the other titles. This is my review of all of the games and emulations.Sinistar: An awesome space themed game. Your goal is to mine crystals to make Sini-bombs by shooting asteroids which plague the screen. This can be slightly annoying, because enemies can steal the crystals, and you can easily miss the crystals by making a sharp turn. Graphics are awesome for the time, while sound effects are just as awesome. 5 out of 5. Beware, Coward.Joust: The classic Buzzard-smashing game. Your goal is to smash other knights on buzzards by being higher in the air than them. This is the only game where you need two remotes to play with another person. Controls are good, gameplay awesome, graphics awesome as well. 4.5 out of 5.Defender I and II: The reason why these games are grouped because the are so much alike. Though Defender II has slightly different graphics and features, the goal remains the same: to defend humans and destroy enemies. Gameplay and controls are good. Graphics and audio are classically awesome. 4.5 out of 5 for both games.Robotron 2084: In two words: awesomely intense. Not for your casual gamer. Goal is to kill robots, save humans and just plain survive. Graphics ok, controls are the same. Gameplay and sound affects are the epitome of ’80s games. 5 out of 5.Bubbles: Misguided effort to be cute. Goal is to clean the sink while not being popped. All aspects.
Special note to Ps2/ Original Ps3 owners: It is a better value for you to get the PS2 title: Midway arcade treasures, and possibly its sequel.Six of the best games that Pac-Man made possible are perfectly emulated on this disc, which competed head-to-head with the Namco Museum series on the Playstation. Who won? THE GAMERS!Fun for the whole family, except maybe for sinistar.. If you play the game too loudly, the title character’s voice may frighten and disturb small children.Plays on Playstation 1-3
