For the one negative review. Some people are just landlubbers I guess.Absolutely fabulous game!!I like being the pirate lady!! it’s easy to take out the merchant flagships with only the rebellion galley. Not if but when the entire spainish armada comes for you? Run Run Flee Flee. Sell your stolen ships and get rich quick!
This game was one of the most unique titles ever to appear on the old SNES. It was the sequel to an RPG called Uncharted Waters, and both of the games were based on sailing. Now, other games such as Pirates Gold attempted this sort of thing, but none of them did it this well.As it starts, you have a choice of six characters to play, and each of them has his or her own unique storyline. Their stories will often intertwine with other characters’ stories. For example, one of the characters has a grudge against Portugal, and if you choose the character who is from Portugal, you will eventually have to fight her. As a second example, one of the characters becomes a rich merchant, so another character who is in serious debt might appear and ask to borrow money. The different characters even have their own theme music when sailing. The game is also very true-to-life as far as the layout of the world. If you have a real map or world atlas, you can also use it for this game–the game’s map is that accurate. Its placement of cities, and even the latitude and longitude, are completely correct.Another cool feature of this game is that you can control how your character develops. Fighting, for the most part, is optional, not mandatory. You can even avoid pirate attacks simply by keeping your fleet small. You can be an adventurer, a pirate, a merchant, a privateer… All sorts of things. You don’t simply choose one of these occupations in the beginning, but you become one based.
This was by far the best game Koei ever came out with. Never have there been a game that I could go back to again and again and still find hours and hours of enjoyment!!!! The only sad thing is that Koei still havent made another one like this. Maybe some day Koei or another game company will come out with another game like this.
This video game is the best that I have ever played (it even beats out Master of Orion 2). The graphics aren’t impressive, but the sheer size of the game is amazing. You can play the game 100 times and each time it will be different. I got this game over 10 years ago and I still play it every few months.
great game as good now as it was in the 1990s lets you explore the world of 1500 and learn and have fun at the same time
Bought this for my husband and he loves it! It came in the great condition that it claimed to be in.
This truly is one of the greatest RPGs of the SNES generation and it is sadly overlooked. Every time you play through will be different, and while it is just now finally starting to feel somewhat dated, I don’t think there is a better sea-fairing RPG to date.
This is a great game. I had the original Uncharted Waters and bought this one when I found out it came out. It was really hard to find and I got the last one the store had. It is a lot better than the first UW in which you have a choice of characters, the graphics are a little better, and the game play is just great. I always waited for more to be released but none came to this country. There are in fact more of the series but never translated to US. They were on PS1 i believe, not sure if a PS2 one ever came out. Now there is UNcharted Waters Online that was released and I preordered it for the US release and it keeps getting pushed back….i.e. it was supposed to be released in 2005 and several date changes its sometime this summer in 2006. GameStop’s website is the only place I saw that you can preorder this. Maybe if enough people show interest in it, it will be released here. I was spoiled with this game and now all the other ship and pirate games are sub par, but Pirates of the Caribbean is great, just like a UW sequel. Only problem is it has a lot of bugs because Disney bought an already designed game, Sea Dogs 2, and slapped the movie’s name on it to be released at the same time as the movie and it wasn’t quite debugged yet. I had it for xbox and the only problems i had were I just would save when i arrived and left each port because the further you get in the game it likes to freeze. I did buy it for PC but you can’t use a controller with it and I am not good with th.
To me this is the best game on the SNES. With 5 different characters, all with deep story lines, the replayability is unlike anything else except sim games (Civilization for example.) The game does not babysit you. You have to learn how to get by, which is actually a lot more rewarding when you find a lucrative new trade route or take down a powerful merchant fleet. The music is beautiful. With 120 ports, and the entire map of Earth to explore, obviously they couldnt put much detail into every area, but what is lost in detail is gained in depth of gameplay and possibility for a new adventure every time.
Its MASSIVE! you can play this game so so many diffrent ways. The whole world is open and its just dying to be explored. cant say enough great stuff about this game.
