This is the most unsung game of all time imo. For some reason, it gets trashed for being hard and eating up quarters. In the same breath, someone will defend a game like Pac Man or Battlezone based on those 2 reasons I just mentioned. Why is it not ok for Area 51 to have 2 similarities with other arcade games?I wore this game out for a week straight on my senior trip in an arcade. It was a skiing trip but I’m a handicap so that didn’t go to well with me (I did try though but quit when I ended up laying in a pool of my own blood…stupid skis) This is what got me back into video games. I saw Atari written on the machine and didn’t get my hopes up. Before long though, I was in love. It’d been a loooong time since I’d seen a game with all of the things I loved most about the games I used to play (Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, etc). There was definitely enough violence and ammo in this thing for me. Every game I’d seen since my very shortlived Sega Genesis (which was shortlived after my NES thanks to highschool football…yeah…I’m not that handicapped ;) and a drivers liscense), was what they called these RPGs. It looked like those were nothing more than people walking around rooms and opening doors.Now, sentimental values aside, I think I can still justify complaining over this game’s lack of praise. The arcade game *could* be beaten with one, and definitely 2 guns (players), imo. I honestly think that if I owned one of the machines, I could pull it off. Therefore, the.
Its a fun game but the only thing that sucks is that you can literally beat it in 15 minutes. Understanding that this was for an arcade machine so its not really going to be long. I do love this game but the controls are a tab bit slow and you cant adjust it. Its great playing alone with your gf/bf or with friends.
