Tales of Graces to me was one of the most refined games I have played on the PS3 when discussing gameplay. It has an excellent battle system combined with a refined title system compared to other Tales games. The equipment production is efficient. Best of all the world exploration is simplified (I’m not adventuring for hours in a vast open world map. The destinations are clear and the paths are consistent as would be any civilized world). The story is on par with most RPGs of the time. The voice acting is excellent all apart from Sophie’s monotonous voice (which I realize may be on purpose, but that does not retract form its annoyance). The character dynamics are a bit shaky. At times I want to yell at the characters for making such stupid decisions or statements. They also have fights that are meaningless and misplaced. The story itself is interesting. Mind you, it may take a moment to realize what cryas is to them.PROS:Streamlined gameplay.Challenging.Grinding for titles and levels is still fun.Story is easy enough to follow but complex enough to keep you interested.CONS:Character interactions are unrealistic and agitating.Graphics are true to the tales series but do not help display emotions despite the monstrous capabilities of the PS3.
great gameplay and story line
Very good game. Nice story a lot of mini games and interesting sub events.
This is easily one of the best and newest JRPGs out right now. That is not saying a lot but it is a great one that doesn’t deserve to be passed up and it doesn’t stray away from why the series is good or change things up to broaden its fanbase. Unlike some JRPGs the series still retains visual contact with your enemies on the screen so you won’t enter a random battle without noticing it beforehand. It has a lot of customization and your able to upgrade everything from your gels to heal yourself to everything you wear. The story is also pretty cool and it has a good meaning behind it. There is a lot of character development and you choose though how much of it you actually want to experience. There will be times when you are able to push select if you choose to watch the characters mingle amongst each other. It can sometimes be long, sometimes not and plays out through voice, text, and still images. There is though cutscenes in the game and they play out nicely. Visually, it is has vibrant nice colors and great animations, and nice visual effects during combat. The game also has a lot of replay value. After the credits role, the game doesn’t actually end. Even beyond that, there is a Game + Mode and it allows you to gain or lose certain things through a second playthrough. This game has 100s of hours of gameplay because of that and the many sidequests you can go on. I recommend this game for JRPG fans.
Great game, arrived on time!
Excellent story line. Combat is really fun. If you are an RPG lover, then this game is a MUST HAVE! It is also a looooong game so keep that in mind as well.
Being a fan of the Tales since I started on the Gamecube, I can’t get my hands on enough of them. This one wasn’t a disappointment to the series. I really loved the storyline, even if it felt a bit small-scale in the early game. By the end-game it expanded and I just fell in love with the development of it.There were a few places that I was a bit upset with when there wasn’t enough character development and certain people could’ve had a bigger role in the story, but didn’t.I can’t write a review for the future arc, as I am currently working on that, but know that it’s nice to see that there is still more story after playing the main part of it. After the main arc, you have the choice to go into New Game+ or to continue the story into the future.Overall: This game is a must for a Tales fan. I hold this one close to me. It has taken Symphonia’s place from me.
When this game first came out, I was not very interested. However, a friend introduced it to me recently, and I fell in love with the game! I had to buy it! I’ve already spent an excessive amount of 200 hours on my first playthrough to earn about everything. The battle system is very unique, and after you play it, you sort of want to start using MP skills in other games like crazy. This is definitely a good game!
Althought Tales of Xillia is my favorite PS3 "Tales of" (waiting for the 2nd to come out)… Tales of Graces is one of those games you’ll regret not playing if you enjoy spending hours lost in a fantasy world with anime-like graphics and a great RPG! A must play for JRPG fans.
If you are looking for a great jRPG for current gen consoles, look no further than Tales of Graces F! Its a great game with a FANTASTIC Battle system that finally changes things up in the Tales world (as the majority of the games released in the west have been made by Team Symphony who made Abyss, Symphonia, and Vesperia they all had VERY similar battle systems). The story may be generic, but the world, gameplay, and amount of things you can do aren’t. This game feels like a PS2 JRPG in the PS3 age (which trust me is a good thing as the only great jrpg’s we’ve gotten this gen are on handhelds, well besides Neir as it was great too.) Although I VASTLY enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII-2 as it was a billion times better than the original, I think I’ll be getting more mileage out of Tales because there is SO MUCH MORE YOU CAN DO! If you haven’t done so already, do yourself a favor and pick this up as it is an excellent edition to any gamers collection.
