Gremdude here with another review. Haven’t done one of these in while but after finishing this game(the only time when you really should do a review) I felt it was worth the time to give some pros and cons of this game. I had an absolute blast with this game–for the most part. I really recommend playing this game on Easy the first time through for one reason only—the loading times. They are atrocious. There will be some side scrolling and 3D platforming that you WILL die the first time unless you watch a walkthrough video(something I did on the third and every side scrolling part thereafter.) When you die, you get to watch two stupid monsters fighting for about 40 seconds or so. It will drive you batty and that is why I recommend the easy difficulty. Overall, this game is an excellent value if you like hack and slash with lots of gore. Don’t give up!! The game actually gets easier as you go along. By the 9th or 10th “phase” you will be so good with your moves and powers that you will mow through the monsters like nothing! Lots of trophies to earn too(I got about 50% of them in the first playthrough) which brings us to the next point. Replayability. If you want to stay on the same difficulty, you can jump to any level with ALL of your Blood upgrades intact and play them over just to get more blood(the currency of the game) and work on levelling everything up. Alternately, you can start a new game at a harder difficulty(which is what I did) and keep your upgrades too!! It is.
This game itself is mainly just running around and button mashing for the most part. It was fun, and as a fan of the older Splatterhouse games, I enjoyed the story and playing through it. The reason for the 5 star rating though is that as you play through the story mode you actually unlock the original three games ported from the Turbografx 16, and the two Sega Genesis games.
Its awesome that they had the original games on here too
Thanks
Excellent game, a few minor quirks and a bit hard at times. Also contains splatterhouse 1 2 and 3. Also there is downloadable content, the wite room is great as well as its fun to have all the other masks, there are 4 available for purchase at the PSN store.
slash and dash…interesting….can be boring here and there though…more words required it says, thats why i don’t fill these things out!
I’ll admit that when I was younger I didn’t play the Splatterhouse games endlessly nor think they were the greatest thing since sliced bread like some people seem to fondly remember the series, however I did play the games and I did enjoy them. Nostalgia was the primary factor that piqued my interest in the reboot and I was really curious to see how the game would turn out as a whole and how it would successfully balance satisfying new gamers and older gamers alike. Well, both fortunately and unfortunately it seems like they didn’t care about creating an experience for new gamers to delve into and were more interested in creating an all out nod to games of the past. I haven’t played a game that is this unabashed in creating an all out brawler with no other purpose except to pound the ever loving crud out of endless waves of baddies with the occasional weapon thrown in to “break up” the repetition, but it works as a mindless adventure of all out destruction. There are a number of upgrades that you can acquire but it’s mostly there to mask the fact that you can escape with the patented approach of button mashing until the enemy has become nothing more than pulp. It’s a game that’s pretty easy to pick up and play for a little while and turn it off as the automated save points in the levels are frequent enough that you won’t have to be concerned about your progress being erased (and helps to stave off disinterest). It’s a nice throwback to the days of old school gaming and there.
It has been over 15 years since the release of Splatterhouse 3 on the Sega Genesis.Namco has pumped out allot of junk over that period of time, countless Pac Man spin offs, tons of Soul Calibur and Tekken games and other junk.I had almost given up hope for a new one.BUT HERE IT IS.Gameplay – amazing, gory just like the original. The mask still talks and surprise it’s Jim Cumming the voice of DARKWING DUCK. Regenerating using blood to repair damage to your character Rick is great. Also using blood to purchase new move sets and increase your abilites is great as well.Plus you get the original trilogy to unlock as well and it’s the uncensored Arcade Splatterhouse 1 not the crappy censored TG-16 port.Story – Typical B movie storyline, but that makes it so much sweeter. Your Rick, you are fatally wounded after going to the West mansion. You are saved by the Terror Mask, which coaxes Rick to put the mask on, since only the mask has the power to help Rick save his girl Jennifer.Controls – Spot on. I have never had a problem with the controls. They are responsive. No problems what so everCamera – Good, not perfect. Few spots here and there are problematic but otherwise good.Graphics – Amazing. Lighting is perfect. Character models are great and detailed, you can even see the body damage on Rick as he gets hurt, revealing bones. The monsters go squish with blood, filling ricks hands with blood, they even splat the screen with blood. Nice touches like that make the ride even more enjoya.
SPLATTERHOUSE took me a couple of levels to warm up to. I kept dying and got very frustrated. But then I figured out how to revitalize health and do a few special moves, and the game got very fun. So for me, at least, there was a learning curve. However, once I figured out how to play the game, it got really fun. (This may sound like a tautology, but I can’t tell you how many people I’ve talked to over the years who’ll give a game fifteen minutes and put down the controller). So if you’re used to beat ’em ups, it may be a little easier for you to get into. Is Splatterhouse the most fun game ever? No, but it’s good fun. (In fact, if you have a Wii, get MadWorld — one of the best games on any console)The story mode was a fun ride. It’s really gory and violent and the dialogue between Rick and the Terrormask keeps you involved in the story. There are even some pretty good one-liners. The gameplay can be a little repetitive, but there are a bunch of special moves and upgrades to keep it fresh. If you try to button-mash your way through this without figured out what you’re doing, Splatterhouse will be a grind. It’s got a great soundtrack:* The Accused – “Pounding Nails”· ASG – “Dream Song”· Cavalera Conspiracy – “Must Kill”· 5 Finger Death Punch – “Dying Breed”· Goatwhore – “Apocalyptic Havok”· The Haunted – “Hollow Ground”· High On Fire – “Fire, Flood & Plague”· Invisible Enemies – “Dead Eyes”· Lamb of God – “Walk With Me in Hell”· Mastodon – “Blood and Thunder”·.
