I bought this game for my wife and kids to enjoy and I even have to admit I have fun watching them play it. The figures are really neat looking and feel very sturdy, enough so that my kids could use them as action figures when they’re not being used for the game itself. I can’t say this set is worth the price of $50-$70 bucks, but at the $35 I got it for, it was definitely worth it!
Now my son and I can enjoy Skylanders even more. The price could not be beat for a working product.
All of my kids play this game. 16, 13 and 6. Great story, enough to keep them all entertained. I’ve even found myself playing now and then. The ease of play and progression of adding abilities to the characters which means more buttons to use makes this a great game for a young gamer starting out.The figures are well built, and are the rage of my youngest son’s school class. The fact that they can play with the figures away from the game, then put them on the portal and they become "alive" in the game is an incredible idea.If you’ve been trying to find a game to help a young gamer learn how to play while not being overly violent this is the perfect game. Plus you can put 2 characters on the portal and you or a sibling can play at the same time.Great great game!!!
Hours of fun for you or your little ones. Game is constantly changing according to the elemental characters you have. By the way, you wind up buying one of each just to see how it expands. My brother liked it so much, he got it for my nephew.
The husband and I play this all the time! So much fun! Great dialogue and graphics!
If you use wired controllers, as we do, be aware that the portal uses one of the usb slots so only 1 player can then play. We are now having to order wireless controllers for the kids to both play. Other than that we have had no issues with this game other than the occasional issue with the portal not recognizing the Skylander.
My (now) 6-year-old asked for the original Skylanders for Christmas last year from Santa, and played it a LOT. We had to work out a “reward” system for buying new Skylanders so we wouldn’t be taken to the cleaners with the first game. I’ll explain what we did for anyone interested farther down in the review.This one is his latest gift from Santa so he hasn’t actually played it yet. We went with the Starter-kit since on Black Friday it was half-price (and about $15 cheaper than the add-on kit) and included 2 other characters as well as the new Giant character. I will add-on to this review if there is any significant change in gameplay. I can say the first game is fun for younger kids (up to age 10 or so I would say) but I can’t imagine older kids would get much out of it. It all depends on the kid of course. My son has thoroughly enjoyed it–the graphics aren’t the greatest, but they’re appropriate for the game–very cartoonish, and there are fun little animations for each character when they’re placed on the portal. The graphics aren’t very sharp, but they do create a pleasant game enviroment and, with the exception of one or two levels the objectives are clear enough for him to figure them out on his own so there is very little frustration for him.In summary this is a fun, not-too-violent game that younger children will especially enjoy.This part is for anyone interested in total cost and how we managed to spread it out a bit:I’ll try and explain what you’re getting.

My son have the swap force first, but then he saw his cousin have this and then he want it too. Got this for him with PS3, it will also work on swap force patrol, but the swap force will not work the Giant patrol. I got both starter kit with PS3 and Wii, PS3 game show much better quality then Wii.
