This game is awesome. I remember when i was 4 when i bought this game at hollywood video, I knew i was in for a treat. I got it and I loved the game. I bought it on retrolio due to my copy being horribly abused. If you need only 1 game, get skullmonkeys
I love The Neverhood, and when I heard there was a sequel, I got right online and ordered myself a copy. What I received was probably one of the strangest platformers I’ve ever played. Skullmonkeys retains the clay graphical style of The Neverhood, as well as a lot of the same sort of humor. Also featured is a fantastic soundtrack done by Terry S. Taylor, the same musician behind The Neverhood’s soundtrack. The Skullmonkeys, Neverhood, and Boombots soundtracks are all available on a two-CD set called “Imaginarium: Songs from the Neverhood”, if you’re crazy and want to play these tunes in your car.Skullmonkeys features 25 distinct levels of varying sizes, as well as several minigames and full-motion claymation cutscenes between levels. In a way, the game is a little bit too long, and it definitely feels slightly generic. If you’re familiar with the 2D platformer genre, there’s not much to see here aside from the game’s artistic qualities. I feel that Skullmonkeys holds its own much better as a work of art than it does a unique video game. However, it’s still an ambitiously bold attempt to combine art and what may be one of the oldest and best-known video game genres out there.Control-wise, the game feels a little slippery at times. It’s not unplayable by any means, but things can get hairy in the final level when you’re trying to leap off of some of the disappearing platforms. Unnecessary deaths aren’t uncommon in this game, so if you don’t think you can deal with that sort of.
My favorite game since I was a smaller version of myself was Skullmonkeys. I missed it so much, I had to buy it. But, oh no, $$$ on retrolio? Well, I got it from a zshop anyway (very grateful) and I was very happy to see all the madness again. The music keeps our minds from laughing at the 2d side scroller game play, the claymation movies leave us begging for more, and the 70’s come back to life in this once in lifetime (well, ok, there was the neverhood I guess, but I havn’t played that yet) opportunity to get a little weird.
Skullmonkeys has always been one of those games that when I looked back at my old games, this would be the one game that I would remember distinctly. While a conventional platformer in terms of gameplay, it’s so non-conventional in everything else. Everything is in claymation, which give the environments a fresh and really beautiful aspect to them. The character designs are crazy (in a good way), and it made always anxious to see what’d be coming next (one of the bosses is simply a large head with legs attached to it that spits fireballs, and it’s actually just a picture of one of the game designers). The music is so great; I’d definitely buy a soundtrack, and sometimes when I’m playing the game I like to clear an area of enemies and just sit and listen to the game. It really defies rating systems in that I could recommend to ANYONE between the ages of 10 and 70. Oh, and the cutscenes in between levels are so wonderfully done (and hilarious) that you’ll wish that the creators will make a full-length movie someday. Overall, Skullmonkeys is a rare gem in the sea of old games that should be preserved, remembered, and cherished (as I know I’ll do with my copy).
A fun, bizarre side-scroller. I REALLY wish it had a save feature & I REALLY wish the original game, The Neverhood, was available for a system that I have, but as simple a game as this is, it never seems to get old. Fight your way through armies of Skull-headed chimpanzees with an ever expanding arsenal of weapons & technology to knock you out of the game. Claims to have at least 90 levels, but I haven’t got far enough to really say for sure.
Excellent condition! Just as described, perhaps better. Very satisfied!
This game is one of my top 10 favorite games of all time! As an adult (38 years old), I found this game to be challenging, entertaining, but relatively easy to learn how to play. My 11-year old daughter loves it as well, which is unusual, since we don’t usually like the same types of games. The game primarily an arcade-style game, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it (I HATE most arcade type games). This game is well-worth the money (if you can still find a good copy out there).
I bought this game on here, back in September 2011, now it’s August 31, 2013 and it’s in my PlayStation 3 right now. This game is worth being about $30 because of the sentimental value it holds, besides the fact of it being a pretty awesome game. If you’re into weird funny retro video games than I suggest you to buy this game.
This game was in near perfect condition-no skips. I think that this is the way to shop from now on, no more auctions. The shop described the product accurately, and I am very pleased. Thank you.
