Both daughter and son love it!
Valve’s hit, Left 4 Dead, first hit shelves in 2008, and despite a few flaws, it was still a great game that could be replayed over and over with friends. Well, Valve heard us and created Left 4 Dead 2, which stars an all new crew going through the American South. Featuring Ellis, Nick, Rochelle, and Coach, the gang feels much more like human beings from before the apocalypse, compared to L4D1’s characters who seemed to be born to murder the living dead.New guns, sidearms, melee weapons (woo! chainsaw!), throwable bombs (who though of bottling puke, anyways?), enhancements, and new alternatives to the med-kits make L4D2 seem less like a giant expansion pack and more like a sequel. The levels are more complex, and less linear. Also new are the new "special infected", such as the Jockey who jumps on his victims and "rides" them to all kinds of hazards (fire, ledges, etc), and the Spitter who spits pools of acid toward the survivors. In addition, Valve has added a "scavenger" mode, where the survivors race around a small map to find gas cans and carry them back to the generator, while the special infected try to stop them.If you didn’t enjoy the first one, there’s nothing that will really change your mind here but if you were a fan of the first game, this is a MUST own.
Gift, they loved it.
Sequels are always dangerous territory. How does Edison follow up the long lasting light bulb? Thats a tall order…one that Left 4 Dead 2 succeeds in filling. What’s new in 2? Melee weapons. New types of special infected. New special items. Witches wander around in daylight. Maps that change every time you play them. An online game where you play versus another team of players to collect gas gans. Events where non-stop hordes come until you complete your objective or die trying. The same excitement of versus and online players is there. The same challenge of the original game is there if you want to wratchet up the difficulty, or play against some pro-players that gang & game up together on you online. If you liked the original, you will like 2.
Great game
Overall it’s an excellent, simplistic, exciting, somewhat challenging co-op/split screen party type video game that surprisingly stays fun for up to 2-3 weeks. After that however, I cannot see myself going through continuous playthroughs of the short substance-lacking campaigns.Don’t get me wrong, this game is fun and great in almost all respects except for the fact that the substance, plot, motivation… (whatever you want to call that which keeps you coming back for more)is non-existent.Glad they added more than just the M16 (now they have AK-47 and what seems to be the SCAR). They added melee weapons (which they should have had in the first one), and added some extra items and extra zombie type enemies.Graphics are for the most part the same as the original Left 4 Dead, nothing different there.Campaigns are slightly longer and more challenging, but the fact that once you get caught in the grips of the “special” zombies and you can’t escape from them unless assisted by a teammates is utter BS. Not to mention of all your teammates go down, you have to start back from the beginning. I hate this system.Things I hate:Campaigns lack story or any interesting elements at all (it’s just raw run and gun fun)Still a shortage of weaponsVery linear structured game (point A —> Point B)Simplistic (nothing very griping or engaging about the game really – its like senseless killing and endless waves all just to get to the end to nowhere)Game play doesn’t change (once you play through one.
The following game is a definite improvement over the previous game. While I cannot say it is one of the best games on the console, I definitely feel like they are moving in the right direction. Before I go onward, I wanted to state that I am one of the many people who disliked the first game simply because of how lazy the game developers were. They created a game that resembled a minigame and should have been worth $20, not $60. And yes, I am angry that instead of adding more maps to the first game for $10, they decided to scam us with another $60 game, knowing that anyone who wanted more from the first game bad enough would get the next game. Putting all of that aside, I will try to rate this game on it’s merit alone, based on how it has improved over the first game and how it is as a game of its’ own.Graphics: Graphically the improvements in the game are slight. There are more infected shapes and colors. However, there are some problems as well. I notice certain infected, when killed, disappear, this was not a problem in the first game. The area you move in seems slightly more detailed. The best you can really say about the graphics is slighly more polished than the original.Gameplay: Some may be happy to find that the feel of the game is the same. You can pick up one or the other and notice very little in the difference between the feel of the game or the feel of weapons that are similar between games. On the up side, you have access to melee weapons and a couple new weap.
LFD2 is the best game for co-op fun. What is better than you and 3 friends shooting hundreds of zombies? The game can be challenging – it makes you and your teammates stick together. If you go off on your own you will not survive. Similar to the original Left 4 Dead, but adds new characters, melee weapons, new special zombies, new items, and new weapons. Overall a lot of fun and I haven’t even tried the versus multiplayer yet.
Game shipped perfectly.
As a fan of the original L4D, I pre-ordered the second in advance and patiently waited. I know some were upset and threatening boycotts over Valve abandoning the first game with Crash Course as an afterthought and moving to the second. I however, can’t argue it. L4D2 picks up with the first left off with tons of improvement. The major edition of melee weapons is the best. Instead of having to rely on bullets, you can switch to one of several weapons which all have distinct swings and sounds. This adds a whole new dimension to the game as you’re free to replace your pistols. There are a few new additions for weapons as well, boomer bile which is puke that attracts zombies away from you and can even mess up some of them like Tanks. There’s also a defrib unit to revive a dead teammate, adrenaline shots to temporarily boost your health and speed, more variety of guns… and of course, new enemies. Also new is the scavenge mode. You can team up with friends to take on others in a race to fill gas tanks into generators (or a car) with the winner being the one who fills the most. This mode plays excellent, as do the returning Versus and Survival. All in all, this game is a must have if you’re a zombie or even FPS fan, although Gold membership is almost a must for the online play (as well as a mic). Valve definitely poured their heart, souls and energy into this game and any thought of a quick capitalization on the success of the first should go out the window. This game plays incred.
