As a kid in the 80’s I dumped a lot of quarters into the pinball machines at the local corner store. In 90’s I dumped a lot of quarters into the pinball machines on campus and at the pub. The last time I tried “computer” pinball was something on windows95 and I wasn’t really impressed. When ZEN pinball came out on the PSN, I picked it up and was impressed with the quality, but the tables were fictitious. One of my lasting memories from the 80s was taking turns on the Black Knight table at the corner store. It was the first pinball machine I played that talked to you and it had magna-save. I looked around online and found that Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection not only existed, had real world pinball tables but it also had Black Knight!I really enjoyed this game. The tables (those I had played in real life) are just as I remember them. The default high scores are not too high to register. The “Williams Challenge” was tough, but not impossible to unlock Jive Time.If there are more “Pinball Hall of Fame” games for the PS3, I will certainly pick them up. I might even get the Gottlieb collection but it’s a PS2 game and I’d prefer a 1080p HD version.
got a lot of hours out of this, then I learned that you can buy these games and more from playstation store. I think the standalone media game provides better image quality but would like to see more games added. still, great nostalgic fun!!! add an 80’s soundtrack to the background and its a time machine.
Definitely check out the Williams Collection over the Gottlieb Collection. It features more actual hit pinball machines from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The Williams Collection lets the player unlock a solid collection of machines– I’m a fan of 80s pinball, and found “Black Knight,” “Sorcerer,” and “Firepower” to all be super-faithful with solid replay value. Even better, the pinball physics are so much more realistic on the Williams Collection (particularly when it comes to audio).
Good stuff here, well worth the price of admission
I dumped a ton of quarters into several of these tables growing up… Mainly Pinbot, Medieval Madness, Tales of the Arabian Nights, Funhouse and Taxi. It’s stunning how accurately they’ve reproduced them here. I’ve picked up most of the great $60 games that have been released recently and I can honestly say none have as much non-stop action or replay value as the $29 Williams Collection.I’ve already got more hours into this title than all of my other games combined! My only wish would be for the ability to play against friends online but for 29 bucks (new) I’m not complaining.Check out the reviews on all of the gaming sites. Even the hardcore pinball fanatics agree that this game is fantastic! The guys who made it obviously love these tables as much as I do. Even if you haven’t played the real pinball machines,I would highly recommend this title.
I could not wait for this game to come out!!! I had spent my younger years in Aladdins Castle playing Pinball. Funhouse to be exact. When I saw this particular game, I saw that it had Funhouse. I was sold immediately. One of the best pins ever created. The game doesn’t have very many options, but the gameplay is solid. Tables are very accurate. Features fun tables like Taxi, Whirlwind, Arabian Nights, Medieval Madness, and No Good Gofers. All are fun and awesome tables. There are a few of Williams oldies in there that aren’t as exciting, but are somehow addictive with the challenge to see how many points you can score. If you love pinball, THIS is the game for you. PS3 and XBOX version are virtually identical, so don’t worry about which one is better bullcrap. I hope that Bally or Stern create something like this…

Good if you like pinball, I gave it as a gift.
The first thing that stunned me about this game is that the tables are photo-realistic. I have to believe they used cameras to scan the tables and put them in the game. The camera follows the ball very well so you can easily see what’s happening, and zooms out in multi-ball for the same effect. There are a good number of tables and all are fun to play. There’s even a tutorial for each table with narration and arrows used to point to goals and bonuses, which for a few complex tables is greatly helpful. Knowing what actions trigger what events adds a depth I never fully appreciated with real pinball. The physics are amazingly real, the dual-shock kicks in at the right times, and you can use the left stick to “shake” the table. For the tables that include an LCD display on the top part of the machine, the relevant display shows in the upper left corner of your screen and never blocks your view of the action. It all works so well it leaves me wondering why no one did this sooner. I hope there’s a second edition or DLC with even more tables, and that other pinball machine makers follow this blueprint. For under $20, this is by far the best bang for my buck I’ve gotten from any PS3 title yet. If you’re the least bit nostalgic for pinball you’ll love this.
For those who think the whole point of pinball is to just hit your flippers madly to keep the ball on the table, you are missing the whole point. In fact, I used to be one of those guys. I didn’t realize that there is indeed skill involved and that there are actual techniques in order to activate the number of features that each game possesses. Additionally, I didn’t even realize how many features each game included, until I bought the Williams Collection and read the instructions. Either way, I moderately enjoyed pinball back in the day. Now, I can’t get enough. The game play on the Pinball Hall of Fame for the PS3 is so realistic, you’d swear that you are playing an actual table. The graphics are dead-on and my wife, NOT an avid video gamer or pinballer, has become completely addicted, as well. The variety of tables is excellent as they span several decades and include those that talk, those that are easy to continue the action, and others which can annoy the blazes out of you. Some versions of the Williams Collection for other systems do not include all of the tables that the PS3 version includes. Those versions are missing out on the best tables. We’ve played this game religiously for well over a year now and still never tire of it. In fact, we’ve bought several other pinball games since and always resort back to this one. We also own all of the Zen and Marvel tables (except for the recent Fantastic Four table) and even though they have extra bells and whistles, the actua.
