Game is just what I expected. The package had been fully opened when I received it, however. (Not the game, the mailing package).
My sone said this is an awesome game. It arrived on time and with no problems. Four more words, there.
This is probably one of those games that will be a hit or miss depending on who’s playing the game. Some will enjoy it immensely while others hate it. I saw a lot of admirers and haters out there for this game so thought I’d throw in my two cents. Personally, I really enjoyed this game. Yes, the camera can be aweful at times but once you get used to it it’s not that bad; it just could have been better. And no, the graphics are not PS2 era (as some review that I read tried to point out). While it may not push the Xbox 360 graphical capabilities over the limits it is by far cleaner, sharper, and simply better than games on PS2 can do (Load up another strategy game from the PS2 saga like Disgaea and do the actual comparison.. you may be shocked), especially when viewed in HD and a nice big TV. This game’s graphics is no Gears of War by any means but it still does the job.Getting back on the track, this game can be a killer, in good ways and bad. It is rather unforgiving. The death of regular members can be permanent, and death of certain characters in mid-mission can simply end the game on the spot without giving you a chance to try to revive him/her. Pacing can be uneven, from slow to mind numbingly fast when unexpected enemy reinforcements pop up right behind you (and there’s a lot). But some people like that kind of surprise and the whole shift-your-tactic-on-the-go thing. I think it makes for a better and more intense strategy game. The theme of the game is very.
There are roughly 8 or 9 games that I would never sell for my 360, the guitar hero/rockband games, Gears of War, Civ Rev, Culdecept Saga…..and this. This game requires a great deal of strategy, planning out, and execution…..and of course a certain degree of luck/randomness. The story is engaging, the gameplay is methodical, the game is very deep (easily 50 hrs of gameplay here), and although not without minor flaws, it really will be a game that will be thoroughly enjoyed.
i like the game is a role play, it gives you the chance to play different characters at once and have a lot of fun!
I am a big fan of the tactics strategy type game but have yet to find one that has all the same thrills that classics like Shining Force and Vandal Hearts provided. Operation Darkness is as close as I have found on the consoles of today (ps3, xbox360, wii). If you can get past the difficulty of the game, and the bad camera controls, the game is pretty decent. The story surpasses my expectations and I liked the voice acting. Permanent Death in the game can be a hassle but at least they provided one character with resurrection abilities. Until they bring back those classic series (vandal hearts remake in the works on xbla) this game will entertain the tactics fan.
“Operation Darkness” is the first Japanese strategic role-playing game (JSRPG) to arrive on a Microsoft console and I say not a moment too soon. After all,
In spite of what a lot of game sites proclaimed, Operation Darkness does not suck. It has issues, definitely, but overall, it’s been a blast to play. Of course, SRPGs are not for everyone. The premise is a cool mix of Nazi / Occult / Werewolves / Vampire lore and after a while, your crew develops some pretty interesting powers. However, getting to that point is half the battle.First, the camera is really annoying. You cannnot see the entire battlefield, the enemies sometimes start off a million miles away, and you have to manually move the cursor all across the map to find your targets. You can use the triggers / bumpers to scroll through your targets and allies, but you cannot assign action, i.e. attacking, from this mode. You spend most of the time just scrolling across the giant maps.Occasionally, the menus are wonky as well. More than once, I’ve gone to enter the ‘attack’ command and I accidentally locked in the ‘finish turn.’As for gameplay, it’s about what you’d expect from a SRPG. Starts easy, but the difficulty ramps up quickly. Some of the missions can be 2 hours long, and there’s no saving your game until the mission is over, one way or another. As an added bonus, your squad mates can die during the missions. Forever. You can carry a modest supply of medicine, and you do have one specific mate who can raise a fallen comrade. However, the fear of losing characters sticks in your mind and changes how you proceed through the missions. ‘Run & Gun’ is a bad ide.
granted i only got to play the demo of the game but you do get to complete a full scenario. this game is one of the few games currently available on the 360 that fills some of your rpg needs. it’s a tactical/strategic rpg featuring WWII. Well it was all normal until i took control of a character named Gallant and he had the option to turn into a werewolf. The main characters all have special attack moves that do a great deal of damage. Much more so than their guns. Based on the empty slots I’m sure their special attacks will become stronger or they will develope different special attacks. You can only equip like five items per character. I don’t know if that changes or not but you can pick weapons, ammo and items off of dead soldiers which is extremely beneficial. One thing I don’t like about the game is how each scenario or new information is told by non animated characters. It strongly evokes feelings of the original playstation rpgs like lunar. With the power of the 360 even with a strategic rpg i would expect something better than that. Actual gameplay graphics will pass with most gamers though. If you have your doubts i would suggest downloading the demo like i did. Based on the demo I can’t find much fault with it.
I am a turn-based strategy/tactical game fan. I realized that it is very difficult to find this genre of games for Xbox 360. Operation Darkness is a typical turn-based tactical game and the only game based on World War II in this genre, as far as know, for Xbox 360. However, some fantasy stuff (e.g., Vampire, dragon, undead) is also mixed in the game story. The game story is enjoyable and playing difficult is a little bit challenging for the first time but you can still clear the all missions after a couple of tries. Graphic is below average and a game control is not comfortable but you will be used to.I strongly recommend this game to people who like a turn-based strategy/tactical game and who like a World War II story based game. If you have not played similar types of games before, it will be very difficult to figure out how to play. I wish I can play some turn-based strategy games, such as “Dai Senryaku” series, in Xbox 360.
