Great game
I’ll say right up front – if you’re looking for XCom meets Sim City, look away from Omerta. But, if you’re into those games, yet looking for something that plays “faster” and is a lot easier to just fire up and enjoy immediately, without worrying about laying sewer lines, drawing roads, etc etc etc, this is a very fun game. You get to be a gangster, and you spend part of your time taking over businesses, bribing informants, and expanding your business. When it comes time to “go to the mattresses”, you jump into tactical combat, much like a boardgame, or games like XCom. The combat is much simpler than XCom, though, which means it’s faster and more fluid, in my opinion. If there’s one really annoying thing, it’s that you spend a lot of time waiting for gangsters to finish jobs they are assigned. There’s no timer to let you know when they’ll be done, and so you sit around waiting a little too often at times. Also, it could use more multiplayer maps. For the price, and the content that it comes with, it’s a lot of fun, and a good deal.
First let me start out by saying this game retails for $49.99 and is on sale right now for $39.99 and for that price pick this one up if you are a RTS, turn based combat, RPG, simulation game fan because this one is probably for you. Now I am a sucker for this time era (1920’s)and Omerta delivers and even though some may say it doesn’t capture the roaring 20’s to a “T” and are looking for something different they didn’t go into this game with an open mind. Now this is far from a review, more or less my impression of the game and comparing Omerta to other games, well that just isn’t far. I didn’t pick this up because I like XCOM and wanted a mix of Tropico or another RPG or RTS game, I played this game because it sparked my interest.Omerta starts of slow and helps you get the lay of the land as a fresh immigrant going after the American dream and what way was the best way to do that during the roaring 20’s in Atlantic City during prohibition? Well let’s see there were corrupt politicians other immigrants and crime bosses looking to make some dough in the land of the free home of the brave making booze, raiding others warehouses and opening up casino’s while setting up the occasional fight and running your very own speakeasy, distillery, brewery while you hire and send out your crew to smack around the KKK, run guns and ultimately help making you the Boss of Atlantic City, and yes as a rising Boss you get your hands dirty as well.If you are still reading and I hope you are.
its done verry well and has alot of stuff to keepu entertained tho i personally found the fighting a bit tough to get down but if u like this ara and rts’s get this game!
Very fun to play, can spend many hours doing so. Makes you think before you rush into battle. Highly recommended.
I read the reviews on this game and it really helped. I was thinking it would be a mix of different games but you shouldn’t think that way. This game is awesome and different. I loved Xcom and this game for me might be better, but I liked WAW COD better than MW2 COD because of the weapons. I love Boardwalk empire and this is so close to it. I was worried the story mode would be short when I first started it but it definitly isnt. Im not too happy about moving and starting over but it keeps it interesting. I think this game should of gotten scored way better than what it did on gameinformer. If you like strategy games you’ll like this game.
I’m currently a big fan of the Boardwalk Empire so I was looking forward to this gangster sim. Although, there is no affiliation with the series you’re playing in actual landmarks in Atlantic City during the prohibition era. The controls have been simplified for the console, which I like. You can quickly set up jobs for your henchmen like extort, bribe, etc in real-time. The downside is that you have to wait for them to perform those duties, which seems like a drag when you’re first starting out with only one henchman. I think a fast forward function would have been a nice addition early on, but if you’re playing a sim game I think wait times are expected. The fun starts when you begin to build your empire and send in your goons to go in for kills. There’s nothing like setting your guys around the perimeter with tommy guns while you walk in with a bat to beat faces in. :) I’m still building my empire so I’m not sure what it’ll be like when I conquer the city, but I’m having fun doing it.
i thought the game was fun. not as bad as everyone was saying in different forum i read. give it a try
Its a good game if you’re into the strategic games with turn based fighting like XCOM. This is similar but with a mafia theme. I wouldn’t buy it for 60 dollars but at 20 it is quite a decent deal.
