Goalie Interference was a solid read and while it had it’s high points for me there were also low points that have made rating this one hard. I’ll start with the good: I loved both Ryu and Emmitt and together they were on fire. Creating likable and enjoyable characters is obviously a strong suit for Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn. I strongly related to Ryu’s introverted and reserved nature and his intense focus. In contrast, Emmitt is cocky, flashy, and extroverted and I loved every second of it! Together they’re complete opposites but they help to balance each other out and their competitive battle works to make them better hockey players. I also loved seeing more of Tristan and Seb because I adored their book, Off the Ice, and as a complete surprise, I fell hard for Morley. He’s loud, obnoxious, and goofy and all of those are compliments; I really hope his book is next! What made this book hard to rate for me is the excessive telling. The majority of Goalie Interference felt like I was getting a summary of everything that was happening instead of actually experiencing it live. It made for a lot of internal monologues, info dumps, and quickly breezed by events. It made it much harder to connect with the story and if not for the strongly written characters I would have rated this lower. I waffled a lot on what to rate this and ultimately decided on 4 stars because I still really enjoyed the story overall.**I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley. I did not receive a.
I love the hockey in this series. Sports themed m/m is my favorite, especially hockey, and the authors clearly know their sport. That may not sound like a big deal, but for a huge hockey fan and general sports nerd, it’s hard to enjoy a book, no matter how well written, when the reference to a line change or a playoff series only make sense in an alternate universe where the NHL has a completely different set of basic rules. I love that the hockey in both Off The Ice and Goalie Interference is so well done to match the overall writing. The story, the dialogue, it all works for me. I love the background of the two characters we see, especially their families and their upbringings. I appreciated the community outreach, and how in this dream of a goalie tandem with both goalies being men of color, they recognize the players who came before them (love the Grant Fuhr poster!); their own position given kids who look up to them and could decide to play as a result; the acknowledgement that the NHL, and hockey in general, still has SO far to go with diversity in every sense of the term. I liked seeing a bit more of Tristan and Seb in this book, too. Hope there’s more to come in the Hat Trick series! I wouldn’t mind seeing more of what makes Morley tick.
I just loved Ryu and EmmittĆ¢ā¬ā¢s story! I am a huge hockey fan, and I absolutely love sports romances. Throw in a closeted athlete and IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m sold! This was a must-read book for me that IĆ¢ā¬ā¢ve had on my Ć¢ā¬ÅI cannot WAIT for this book to come outĆ¢ā¬Ā list forever. The authors did not disappoint because this was everything I hoped it would be and more! It was definitely worth the suspense. This story had a lot of emotion that I didnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t expect, but really made the story that much more impactful for me! After all, whatĆ¢ā¬ā¢s a good sports romance without emotion! I loved the competition between Ryu and Emmitt, but most of all I loved them getting to the point of showing their vulnerabilities to each other. If you love a good enemies to lovers story with a dose of hockey, closeted athletes, and quick wit then this a must-read for you too! I couldnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t recommend this book more. I canĆ¢ā¬ā¢t wait to see whatĆ¢ā¬ā¢s in store for us next from these two authors! IĆ¢ā¬ā¢m crossing my fingers on who gets the final story!
I liked Goalie Interference, but, as with the first book in the series, I feel like it is a little lacking in the romance department.I really enjoy the enemies to lovers trope, and the setup here is perfect. Ryu and Emmitt are very different in terms of their personalities, with Ryu being disciplined and self-contained and Emmitt being a cocky showboat. More importantly, though, they competing for the goalie position on their hockey team. Lots of inherent conflict there! The authors did an excellent job bringing the two of them together in a way that feel realistic for the characters. Primarily they bridge the gap through Ryu and EmmittĆ¢ā¬ā¢s shared love of hockey and their shared passion for being a goalie. The fact that they are teammates who both want their team to succeed also helps them connect, because while they may be competing for a position, theyĆ¢ā¬ā¢re still invested in each otherĆ¢ā¬ā¢s success. Similarities in terms of family issues help build their relationship, too.ThereĆ¢ā¬ā¢s a lot of discussion of hockey and what itĆ¢ā¬ā¢s like to be a part of a hockey team in the book, and that part is very well done. There are also some fairly steamy scenes that add heat to the story. However, I felt like the romance between the two men could have been more developed on the page. The reader gets told that their feelings are deepening, but rather than internal monologues about how they feel, I wanted more scenes where we see the two of them interacting outside of having sex or talking/playing hock.
I absolutely love this series because…hot guys and hockey…what more could you possible want !!?? And after reading and loving the first book in this series, Off the Ice, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one.Now we’ve met Ryu in the previous book, but even if you haven’t read that one, you can read this one as a stand-alone….though why you would want to do that is a different question altogether…Anyways… Ryu and Emmitt don’t really get off on the right foot when they meet. Which isn’t so surprising since they are both fighting for the same starting position on the team…goalie !! Would you embrace your competition ?? That aside, they are also complete opposites… restrained versus wild … So many tropes in this one !!All their differences and resentment aside, they can’t deny the major chemistry sizzling between them. Best to do something about it and why not be “friends with benefits”.But we all know how that always works out….right ;)Even though I really enjoyed reading this one, I have to admit to loving the first book much more. For some reason, Tristan and Sebastion showed way more personality and the chemistry between them was almost palpable… It just did not get that same feeling with Ryu and Emmitt. I also didn’t get a real HEA for them…I needed an epilogue or something !! I like my closure ;)I am sure we will get more of these two in the next book, but it isn’t the same for me. That said, I am very much looking forward to the next couple, bri.
This is one of those books that I donĆ¢ā¬ā¢t think would have worked if there was only one POV. Especially since Ryu and Emmitt had very strong feelings about each other in the beginning Ć¢ā¬ā and not the romantic kind. It would have been hard to sympathize with either character if you only saw things from one of them.In order to chose a starter for the Venom, their coaches pitted them against each other. Ryu felt cheated out of a position he thought he had worked hard to earn. Emmitt wanted to prove himself to his new team and earning a starting position would do that for him. A friendship between these two rivals seemed impossible, but a romanceĆ¢ā¬Ā¦ regardless of their initial feelings toward each other, the physical attraction couldnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t be ignored.Ryu came from a family of over achievers. They werenĆ¢ā¬ā¢t opposed to anything that Ryu decided to do with his life as long as he did his best Ć¢ā¬ā and was the best at what he did. They were kind of passive in their disapproval when they directed it toward him, but even if others didnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t notice, it was always clear to him. Emmitt had a mom who was super supportive and a dad who wasnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t. His dad never forgave him for choosing hockey over following his footsteps in football. They both felt like at times that they didnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t quite measure up.One quick hook-up wasnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t enough, but they also had to be careful. They were still part of a world that wasnĆ¢ā¬ā¢t easy to Ć¢ā¬Åcome-outĆ¢ā¬Ā in. Regardless, once they got a taste of how things could be, they both realized that they.
This is a M/M enemies to lovers sports romance. Book two in a series (book one is also M/M) and each can be read as a stand alone. Set in the NHL world, a rookie goalie new to the team and a back up goalie fight for the spot of starter. There is animosity between the two as they both feel they deserve the top spot. There is also a physical attraction, though the anger towards each other prevents either from making a move. Once they start getting to know one another, they realize they are more a like than they thought. Both have families they are trying to make proud and despite playing for the NHL they still feel less than stellar when it comes to impressing the parents (though they both know they are a couple of the best in their field and take great pride in their work.) Their home lives may be similar, their personalities are very different. One is a man of few words, and always straight faced. The other is outgoing and very vocal and generally an upbeat person. The side characters bring in some humor and some moral support. It alternates between POVs. There is sexual content, not an over abundance, but enough to deem this worthy for mature readers. While it’s not a dark or heavy read, aside from some of the fun antics between the characters, for the most part this is a more serious read. Not a rom-com. There are a couple more emotionally tense scenes. The story seemed to move a bit on the slower side for my tastes, but overall it was a good story with a happy ending.*I re.
yu and Emmitt, frenemies after the same goal keep spot! Or are they? Can they work to compete against each other whilst falling in love. I read this as a stand alone and really enjoyed the push pull of the MC relationship, the will this work or won’t it! Definitely worth reading!
One of my favorite trope is enemies to lovers. So I am all over a story about rival goalies. So the rival between Ryu and Emmitt as they compete for starting goalie for the season was definitely something I find entertaining. The tension in this story is definitely not just sexual. Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn has done a great job in making a story that I couldn’t put down.
This is the story of Ryu and Emmitt. I loved this story. It is written well with great characters. The chemistry between them is amazing. They have a believability about them that makes you relate to them very easily. Loved reading about characters and cannot wait for the next book.I received this book as an Arc and I am reviewing it voluntarily.
