I purchased this book as an iRacing.com driver and was starting to race in the Skip Barber F2000 series. This book goes beyond just the Skippy, but is an excellent companion to your iRacing learning experience. There are many pictures that illustrate ideas but the use of colors or shading is limited. This may have been a limitation of publications but there are other books out there that explain concepts better using different colors and patterns. Good words of wisdom from drivers and instructors spattered through the book as well. Overall I recommend, and highly recommend for iRacing.com Skip Barber drivers. It’s my number 2 racing reference book. There is also a YouTube video from Skip Barber that compliments lessons from the book as well, check it out.

Recommending this to all my high performance driving students.
I’ve been involved in Porsche High Performance Drivers Education for two years now. I bought this book on recommendation from our PCA chief driving instructor. He reads this book again every winter and says he learns something new. Every page has a wealth of information that explains how your car reacts to driver inputs and how to drive the track. Covers all of the forces acting on your car and how to use them to go your fastest.
not what i expected but if you want to race cars for a living this book is perfect for you
It goes into a lot of detail that will require multiple reads to comprehend. I am a beginner and this book will be a great reference. I plan to re-read it a few times after some driver education events to continue to understand all of the content.
I think I must have bought almost every book there is on racing instruction over the years, and this book definitely ranks in the top three. It is incredibly complete and easy to understand. It also was good to read before the Skip Barber courses in order to get an advantage over the other drivers, and I still refer to it on a regular basis in Formula Renault, F2000, etc. A MUST buy for anyone serious about competition!Peter Olson
This book is incredibly detailed and reads like a comprehensive textbook on how to drive fast. It is an easy and pleasant read, yet takes a while to finish (just finished my copy), just because there is so much in it – and one gets so much out of it. To quote a track instructor, this book will make your car go faster than thousands of $$$ of performance upgrades. It covers basic driving physics (no, no pages of equations, and they did the math for you where necessary so you just need to look at the final numbers to get the point), basic and advanced line theory, car handling, control and weight shifting, the approach to analyzing a new track, methods to analyze and improve lap times, rain driving, passing techniques, car setup (suspension and tire basics), types of racecars, general advice on life as an amateur or pro driver. Real life quotes on each topic from famous drivers. A reference book that you will read again and again, in full or in parts. Most people consider it the essential read. A steal at the current price.
Extremely thorough, detailed analysis. Not exactly light reading, but an excellent primer on track driving.
Required book for serious drivers and track people.
