(Disclaimer: I voted for neither Clinton nor Trump in the recent election. I thought one despicable and the other temperamentally unsuited to the task. But, like others, including Hillary, I was stunned by the electionĆ¢ā¬ā¢s outcome. Usually unmoved by national politics, I wanted some insight as to why.)GAME OF THORNS by Doug Wead is touted as the first insider account of Hillary ClintonĆ¢ā¬ā¢s failed campaign. As an accomplished author presumably not above the pressure of a short-lived opportunity, one must assume that Wead saw value in being the first to tell the tale. As a former adviser to President George H. W. Bush, the reader might also assume a Republican bias in the narrative. Perhaps only from a perspective of time will one be able to judge the accuracy of the story.GAME OF THORNS starts with a lengthy summation of the scandals associated with Bill and Hillary Clinton from the time the former was the Attorney General of Arkansas (1977 Ć¢ā¬ā 1979) to November 2017. WeadĆ¢ā¬ā¢s intent, apparently, was to illustrate the enormity of the baggage Hillary carried into the recent campaign and which the voters took under consideration. Detractors of the book will certainly say this section is but a rehash of old news, something aptly sold by an outfit calling itself the Hachette Book Group.Trump not having a past involving elective office, the author can only recount his growing into his fatherĆ¢ā¬ā¢s family business in New York City. Since Donald was the second son and not the one originally favo.
A fun look at politics.
Excellent read to see how trump, trumped the establishment and won against amazing odds. The Clinton’s had the media and everything and still lost and I am glad.
Throughout the book I found myself wondering “where was I when these things we happening.” The authors guide through the roads in which both candidates took to the 2016 election was eye opening. I found myself sifting through the footnotes looking for more…like waiting for the hidden scene after the credit of a movie. Not going to sell well in California I think.
Great.
I HAVEN’T STARTED THE BOOK, BUT A DOUG WEAD BOOK IS GOING TO BE A GOOD READ.
This is a great read on the 2016 Presidential Election! It is hard to put down once you start reading it. Goes into great detail. If you are interested in this election, it is a must read!
Written with the truths that you will never get from the media.
Great
Lots of new insights. The author moves somewhat randomly across the timeline, which occasionally makes it a little bit difficult to follow. But the perspectives from each side of the campaign were both interesting and revealing.
