I just bought the game yesterday and I have to say they really did a good job. I haven’t gotten far into the campaign yet, but I think they’ve definately made it more of a challenge. Also, for those of you who like to unlock everything, this time there are only 18 items listed in the dossier (compared to the 50 that was in Ghost Recon). For the multiplayer aspect they’ve added a lot more weapons, especially a much better silenced sniper rifle that can actually drop enemy’s without having to be a headshot. I haven’t tried it online, but I’m seriously thinking about getting XBox Live after playing this game… it would be awesome online. One down side is that it is just like Ghost Recon in that if you want to play against friends using link play, it’s only one player per XBox/TV!
By now, Live subscribers have realized that they can’t escape the military prowess of Ghost Recon-so far, it’s been a perfect shot of multiplayer bliss. For even more Ghost action, Island Thunder is an excellent follow-up that both hardcore players and newbies to the game can set their sights on. Island Thunder is much more than just an expansion pack. Like the PC version, the game contains eight new maps that take place in a near-future Cuba, and once unlocked, a handful of new specialists are at your control. But additional Live features overshadow even these expected extras. The most apparent are the in-game dynamic stats that continually track your gameplay. You can also play in more maps, which include several Desert Siege and original Ghost Recon levels. More weapon kits are available for each soldier, too, enabling for greater diversity in player tactics. A complete training stage is included to familiarize new recruits to the intuitive control scheme. All of Ghost Recon’s sharp sights and sounds continue to stand out in Island Thunder. Again, the graphics are clearly improved upon from those in the PC version-soldiers look cleaner, and even explosions detonate much more realistically. Booming firepower from fellow gunners in an all-natural environment filled with bustling leaves and thunderous falling rain completes a great soundtrack. The best part of Island Thunder is its price tag. At $10 less than a regularly priced Xbox game, this shooter is a bargain. Though it.
Cool and refreshing… The more guts the more Glory…. Thanks a bunch for all the mass murdering it really helps release my anger towards this planet.. .. :)
Having just received the game and having played all the Tom Clancy Rainbow Six, Ghost recon Games before on the PC it was what I expected, this is just my type of game but I was a bit disappointed, having no XBox live function, living in the middle east thats a luxury, I only had the one player mode which I expect leaves out about 50% of the features, I was still disappointed as there were only 18 tasks to complete unlike Ghost Recon original where there were 50. Still I enjoyed playing the game, having to discover all the maps and a few new weapons, the graphics are good and having a surround system juts adds to the effect. I am now busily trying to break out all the specialists, hopefully there will be lots of new weapons and characters there, have only found one new character out of 4 so far. Looking forward to Rainbow 6 (3) for a totally new experience in the Tom Clancy series, hopefully I will have finihsed Island Thunder by the time it is released.
I give this a four out of five because a five to me would be a game that you would give up everything you own to play the rest of your days!… This is an EXTREMELY good one! If you’re already a veteran of GR then there’s no question as to whether you should play this. It’s basically a good continuation of the first. There are a few nice little enhancements that are all for the better. It takes time and patience (just as the first) to play this one, it’s not a “run through and kill ’em all” game. One mission can take over an hour if done carefully and properly without putting your fellow soldiers into harms way. If you’re in for some realism with some “palm sweating” and “screen staring” then pick this up (along with the first!)
I recommend this game to anyone who loves playing war games. The graphics, sounds and scenery is awesome.
Man oh man. This game is off the hinges. The minute I started a campaign I messed myself in the pants. It was that good. Awesome gameplay, graphics, and the jungle is [great]….
Ghost Recon Island Thunder is a fun to play game that’s an even better experience if you have Xbox Live. The ability to download additional content and play the game multi-player greatly adds to the value of the original game. Even without Xbox Live, Ghost Recon Island Thunder is still money well spent. Enjoy!
A new campain, new weapons, and a great experence on xbox live. This is a great game, but you get most of the gamer experience on xbox live™.
First and for most…BEST GAME EVER for xbox live play. This game was so good on SO many levels. The single player campaign was fun…not insanely great, but fun….”ghost recon fun.” This is one of those games that is truly addicting and, in its day, got plenty of Xbox Live play. This game was actually the reason I signed up for an Xbox Live account, and without it, who knows what I’d be playing today.Okay, so, in its time, this game had pretty good graphics. You look back at them now and they don’t look too hot, but when it first came out it was awesome. Other than that, I think the best thing about this game was its multiplayer aspects. Not only were the maps great, but all the different modes of play were great. I remember when this game was popular, SO many people played it, and it was obvious why. Another great thing about this game is the fact that it is a very tactical shooter and not so run and gun like most FPS games out on the market today. Overall, this game is great and even today it stands up as a great shooter. If more people played on Live (well, any at all) I think I might find myself playing this game quite a bit!9.0 PresentationThis game was presented very well. The menus were very easy to use and were pretty clean cut and simple – GREAT! Doing things like joining games and checking friends list was never a hassle.8.0 GraphicsBack when this game came out, the graphics of this game were very good. I think if I were judging the graphics in todays world, I wou.
