This is a great great game. It is an original shooter with lots of different things you can do other then the main mission. Yes this game does have bugs but nothing too big. Buy this game!!!
The Good Things*One huge world to explore freely (as opposed to individual levels). It is an interesting environment.*I think it reflects Africa pretty well. Other aspects (shooting, driving, exploring) reflects real-life activities well too. It’s a little more realistic than I thought it would be.*Seems to have a good amount of interactivity. There are quite a few different weapons, vehicles, and items to use, and they are all used very realistically (guns have a recoil, you can use a scope to mark things on your map, and you drive vehicles from 1st person perspective). You even have to fight off malaria with medicine.*Has an interesting story with okay characters. In fact, part of playing the game involves meeting and gaining reputation with NPCs.*Good sound design.*Includes a level editor.*Includes some multiplayer games. The Bad Things*Not a full high-definition game (720p maximum resolution). Graphics are generally okay, but nothing to really scream about.*A.I. is not the smartest.*One long opening. Don’t expect to shoot things right away.Even though it looks like an first-person-shooter, it’s really more like a role-playing-game. You don’t get nonstop action; you get a world to explore and move around in, and then as you go on missions, you run across some bits of action. For the most part, it’s the envrionment and the interactivity of it that is interesting. Patient players may enjoy it, but if you’re looking to blow stuff up right away, you may be dissapoint.
I just played about an hour of single player to get the feel for the game before I tried the map editor and the online play. Single player visually is just a hair below the quality of COD 4 but hardly noticeable and at times it looks better. Guns break down over time and jam and then break unless you upgrade your weapons. Running is more like Gears of War than COD. Fire propagation is brilliant! After an hour I tried the map editor for about 10 minutes and the possibilities are absolutely limitless and show the most potential for online play out of any game available!!! Couldn’t stand it anymore so I turned on the multiplayer. Fearing lag problems I was pleased to find NONE!!! We had several fires burning large areas and did not notice any lag at all. It takes allot more ammo to kill someone than Im used to but I quickly adapted to the change in play and absolutely loved it! Shotguns are 1 shot 1 kill at close range, sniper rifles accurate and powerful, the uzi is deadly accurate within 20 feet, and the machete is more fun than a knife ;) There are 6 classes to choose from and many different weapons available. All classes available can be upgraded for different weapons, more grenades or more powerful secondary weapons… Maps are huge and very beautiful! Supports 16 player online battles with an endless amount of maps that are as good as any I’ve seen. Lobby is well designed and works perfectly. You can vote past a map, vote off obnoxious players, vote to scra.
Far Cry 2 is a very engaging FPS, perhaps slower-paced than others but ultimately one I go back to again and again. A few comparisons with Far Cry 3 for those who started there: FC3 is less predictable in the sandbox (mostly because of animals and better AI), has better weapon choices, and a larger environment. But FC2 has a far better game-save function, is more challenging in finding money, has an effective ‘buddy system’, and the overall gameplay is less linear. On the last point, I mean that instead of having to press specific button combinations or take a specific pathway to defeat a ‘boss’ character, in FC2 one simply has the mission to, say, ‘remove rebel leader Y’ and leaves the tactics up to the player. And since FC3 takes place in the tropics, fire isn’t nearly as important or useful, while in FC2 it’s often a critical part of gameplay. I’ve grown bored of FC3 halfway through my second run-through, while FC2 I’ve played more than I can count.
you’ll find out really quick that this game is very HUGE 30+ miles in ether way north or south it is amazing to see something that is so PREFECT in every way the graphics are really good and AFRICA is so BIG that you can find alot of places to sniper the bad guys great weapons PREFECT all around game play you get 2 maps to jump from place to place and do your work to find the jackal i’m not giving any details on WHO the jackal is you gotta play the game to find out.
I am still playing this game….weeks…and weeks…later..I have run through it 3 times…and it is different ENOUGH that it is..well..frankly..TECHNICALLY ADDICTIVE…truly..This is a Game..in my opinion..LESS about the ‘story line/plot’ than it is about the WORLD the game exists within..in other words…with ‘Far Cry 2’..the GAME…IS…THE WORLD! And what a world it is…the developers..should..if they have not already…be awarded a SPECIAL..award for Raising the Bar of ARTISTIC STANDARDS in this Media/Medium…the Light Changes and the Views and Vistas..Panoramic Sunsets with Wind and Crickets as the light fades…..these ‘Moments’ that are created..and EVER changing..are TRANSPORTIVE…you can in fact get ‘killed’ because you got sidetracked checking out an incredible view…again…in this game..the WORLD is 1st..Plot 2nd.I would like to add that this game..with it’s summerish capacity and light changes and wind…insects…sounds…dust…is SO lifelike..i find myself less bothered by the rain outside..hee in the Pac North West. This game is the one to take on the trip to Mars…or on board the Orbiter…this game..is like running around Mendocino county with a Gun and a Jeep….this World..is SO TRULY open..and unscripted…I will play..and play this game..to just hang out in the jungle..looking around for the endless and unmarked..ergo..surprising..trails…huts…Diamonds…is as enjoyable for me as the Gun play and story line..MORE enjoyable in fact…the Game is.
There are arguments that this game is repetitive. You know that’s true to an extent the driving can get old but much to the games defense the enemy’s are smart. They will come out of nowhere and although it can make you want to pull your hair out its fun being shot at by a sniper that takes a while to find. Thank god you don’t die on the first shot like you would in real life. As far as them taking to many rounds to kill again can you say HEAD SHOT!!! works like a charm. Bottom line a great shooter.
I am an older gamer…to me games are relaxing. I tend to be picky not so much from the standpoint of buying a game, but after playing it I either finish it because it “grabs my attention” or I get bored. With this being said I REALLY enjoy this game. It offers in my opinion the best of both worlds. It has a wide open playing area and you can choose to either play the objectives provided for you or you can create your own order. The action is not steady but offers enough of it to keep the game varied. The graphics are superb. I also like the aspect of “collecting” items, in this case diamonds to use towards purchase of weapons or other upgrades. All I can say is “give this game a chance”…you will not be disappointed.
If you loved the first game you won’t be disappointed with the sequel. Just like most of the best games, it takes a few hours to become a pro. The freedom of movement and control over your destiny makes replaying the game a continual adventure. This game allows you to create your own strategies, and then adapt them as you see fit. Do what you want, whenever you want! The available weapons in the game are fantastic! I’m a big fan of COD 4 and World at War – especially their online play. However, Far Cry 2 is much more fun in single player mode – much, much more fun! If you want to buy a game that you can have fun continually replaying in single player as well as multiplayer, this is your game!
