This game is just amazing, from the movement of the uniforms, to the animations, to the best gameplay I have ever played in a basketball game, I mean, hands down this game is number one. The graphics were a HUGE upgrade from last years 2k3 Every player model is perfect (cept for Kobe’s Tattoo) I mean SPOT ON. I also think the effect of the jersey swaying and moving when going in for a dunk or a lay-up is sooo sweet. The gameplay is outstanding, I absolutely LOVE the ISO-Motion It really adds so much to the game. The commentary isnt the best, but it isnt the worst either. Tom tolbert does an okay job being that its his rookie year in video games. But the crowd and music is awesome. I Love the AI difficulty, that rocks. everything else is good too. Like the 24/7 mode, I found it okay, maybe i just need to play it more. Thats all I have I give it a 9.8 out of 10

If you buy NBA Live 2004 then you are a fool. Sega rocks hard wit this killer b ball game. NBA Live does not even have XBOX live. that is stupid. This does. But i would still buy this if it didnt have xbox live even thou i do love playing it online.
First of all, let me say that I own both NBA Live 2004 and ESPN NBA, and that hands down this game is the better one of the two. It’s a very solid hoops game, but it still has some problems.The GOOD: Amazing graphics. Accurate player faces for EVERY SINGLE player in the league! The graphics blow Live away it’s not even funny. The control also feels less frantic and more precise than Live, and the ISOmotion control, while clearly ripped off from Live’s Freestyle, works pretty well. The 24/7 mode, which allows you to build a baller and play a variety of mini games and contests, is fun and addictive. It’s not perfect, as some of the objectives are frustrating or boring, but it’s a neat innovation that some lesser companies would sell as a separate game! The depth of customization is amazing, especially in terms of gameplay sliders, meaning the game can be as arcady or realistic as you like. The passing is much improved, and the commentary is decent. Tons of unlockables (teams, gear, courts) make this game addictive as well! Overall, a great game.The Bad: Camera angles. So many developers overlook this, the most fundamental presentation element of any game. 2K3 had virtually infinite camera angles, since you could customize angle of elevation, zoom, etc for each camera. This year, we have… 5, and they all stink. You get to choose between "behind the player" and a couple of utterly useless "sideline" angles which give you no depth perception at.
It’s the best basketball game for this year’s editions. Unfortunately, they changed a few small things in the gameplay from last year’s edition that just take it down a notch in my opinion. These sound like small gripes, but to me, they’re worth mentioning because they take away from the overall gameplay(which is the most important part of any sports title).1. Lack of adjustable cameras. Didn’t think it would bother me, but it does after playing it. You feel too far from the basket on most shots.2. Passing, shooting buttons don’t respond as quick as last year’s edition. This bothered me more than anything else.3. On defense when get ahead of your man while running alongside him and go to your defensive stance (L trigger) you hop forward and the man you are defending whizzes by you.4. Too many blocks and fouls (These can thankfully be adjusted, but it still is irritating)5. The new free-throw meter is too tough. I like a challenge, but not everyone in the NBA has this tough of a time other than Shaq. Again, none of these problems were in last years edition, so I can’t help mentioning them because I couldn’t look past them. Other than that, everything else is the same or better than last year. Slightly better graphics, better presentation, more modes, IsoMotion. If these things are more important to you, then you’ll love the game. Hopefully next year will fix these things and polish up the Isomotion a little. Then it will be unstopable. Except for in the sales depar.
I’ve been a fan of the 2K series since Dreamcast and let me say this is the best one yet. Every year these dudes at Sega get better and better. Out of all the basketball games that came out, this one definitely has the best graphics. The gameplay is trully spectacular. Unlike other basketball titles(NBA Live 2004) you have to actually call plays to score. Not hold the turbo button untill you get close to the rim and dunk. The defensive and offensive play calling in this game is on another level. Why is ESPN NBA Basketball 2K4 the best basketball game ever? 24/7 mode my friend.24/7 mode allows you to create a street basketball player from birth. No joke…your player has no skill whatsoever. Before you go around the world and play on the most famous street courts(Greece, Japan, New York City and many more)against NBA players and legends. I suggest you go through training. I’ve had this game for almost a year and I still haven’t maxed out my player. That is how challenging it is. Oh, did I mention that you can take your created player on XBOX LIVE and have deadly one on one matches to 21 against other XBOX LIVE players, with your custom soundtrack playing(I like to listen to BIG Punisher). The customization in this game is so deep that your player will look like nobody else’s created player.If you are a true basketball fan this is the game for you. Xbox Live & the 24/7 mode takes this game to the history books of basketball games.
