I just finished the game… and I think the reviews are bit too harsh. You have to look from the perspective of an old school gamer. I’ve played Duke 1, Duke 2 and Duke 3D. This game follows them pretty well… all the enemies, bosses and weapons in the Duke3D style are here, with some graphical enhancements. The graphics aren’t as bad as people say, I noticed some texture popping, but nothing so bad that it prevented me from enjoying this game. I also didn’t notice any framerate issues, unlike other posters who said there were.Things I enjoyed about this game, which I can’t find in other games like Crysis/COD/etc:-Old school run and gun (Serious Sam, etc)-Game doesn’t take itself too seriously-first person platforming and interesting puzzles-interactivity of objects, ie. pinball, air hockey, slots, etc-Boss battles are huge-Cool weapons taken from Duke3D and some new ones (Devastator)-parts like shrinking duke, and driving around a monster truck or RC vehicle are all funThings I didn’t like:-only 2 weapons at a time-regenerating health instead of health packs-Turret sequences are difficult because there is no auto-target, aim is difficult-Loading times are about 5 seconds longer than most games, and wouldn’t be so annoying if Duke didn’t die so often.-Some battles dragged on too long (such as the Battlelord)I would probably give it a 7/10. It’s not a bad game, but I could see why people who never played Doom, Shadow warrior or Quake would find it bad. It’s more of a game for.
If I love it for nothing else, I love it for his perverted entitled behavior.Great game, thoroughly enjoyed it! BF loves it too…Plus it has a bad ass name..
I waited for this to drop to the bottom price of 9.99. I read all the negative reviews but wanted to keep my mind open. For what it is the game is excellent. A nostalgic throwback to the games of old. I don’t want to see fancy new graphics or need to reinvent the franchise. just a game to remind of of my younger years which this game did perfect.
Good
As fun as the original
if you remember the original pc game, you will love this. lots of fun, definetly M for mature, awesome game, true duke nukem.
thanks
I will tell all my friends about this item,it came in early and it was boxed up very nicely!! excellent!!!
Duke will never die for this baby boomer!!
First off the game is definately not perfect and there are definately some frame rate issues at random spots in the game. I first noticed the frame rate issue during the first level which happens to be the same as the demo, strange thing is, I didn’t see the issue in the demo?? I have noticed from time to time when using the scope the frame rate can make it a little more difficult but not impossible to aim precisely. Now with the bad part listed first, the game is an absolute blast!! The graphics are not 5 star graphics but are a definately worth a 4 star rating. There is definatley alot of adult humor in the game and very bad language so you might want to keep the young ones in another room when you are playing (yes it is that bad). The one thing that I like the most is the interactive environments! Just about everything you do in the environment will increase your health meter, this includes things like using the restroom, playing pool, cooking popcorn in the microwave, playing slots etc..it is a blast running through the levels just looking for things to do which really adds to the enjoyment of the game.IMHO, this game is for the real Duke fans who enjoy blasting and executing the enemies with gibbs everywhere!! Is it exactly like the previous Duke games? No! It is a new game, and with a new game come changes. Could they have done better? Of course, so could every single developer who has come out with a game in the last 5 years. The Halo series is a perfect example, I ho.
